Gaz gold pro Coilovers?

Hi, so I bought some gaz gold pro Coilovers from mx5parts uk, and I’m just wondering before I install them whether anyone has had any experience with them here in aus. I’ve read a bunch of reviews online where a lot of people who seem to rate them. Though I didn’t notice until I got them that the suspension and ride height aren’t independent from each other, so really I’m just wondering what other people think about these Coilovers

Ride height and shock length shouldn't be independant.

Ride height should be adjusted with spring perch height.

Having separate adjustments is an old marketing lie.

Perch height should be to adjust spring preload, good coilovers should have independant right height adjustment.

Theres no such thing as spring preload, using the context of your example. When you 'increase the preload' you're actually increasing ride height. The shock length adjustment does just that, changes the length of the shock. The only way the 'spring preload' adjustment can affect the free length of the spring is if the shock absorber is at full droop. When its in your hand or the hubs are hanging because the cars on a hoist while you adjust it for initial setup the shock assembly is at full droop (full free length) but its not with the weight of the car on it.

I'm with Dann on this one. "Independent ride height adjustment" is really shock length adjustment, you're making the shock longer or shorter, and if you do it poorly the shock could be too short and allow the wheel to make contact with the body of the car. It allows manufactures to build one size fits all shocks and save money (and hopefully the consumer too).

If the shock was designed for the car, then the shock length should be optimal for bump and droop travel, no need to be adjusted. The spring perch is then used to adjust ride height.

Here we go again! That Tein info is incorrect & Dan is right.
The base height adjustment (lowest collar) is adjusted to give max suspension travel, & the spring perch collars are adjusted to give desired ride height. Ignore spring pre-load.

Gaz seem popular in the UK generally, perhaps due to pricing, but especially on clubman type vehicles. In Aust Gaz also appear on a number of clubbies.

I have legitimately seen people argue that.... On clubroadster mainly.



But yeah, shock length should be set that it's on the bump stops just before anything contacts the body, or road. And before spring bind becomes a concern.

Absolutely, spent hours trying to figure out the Tein instructions when all logic showed it to be BS!!!
Will be interested to hear feedback when the GAZ are fitted,was on the verge of buying them myself.

After all this time I finally got the car of the jack stands and took it out to test the new coilovers , (along with a number of other things I changed), and they are really good, the improvement from what I had on it before is huge

I raced on these for a few seasons and loved them. I believe they’re ali bodied and used to come with their shock dyno results. Much better value than local sadly.
