You've done a really good job with very few blemishes in the grand scheme of things, especially if this was your first attempt spraying an entire car.
When you go to get your filler, talk to the guys at the paint shop. Tell them what you've been using and see what they recommend and why. There might be something even better on the market these day's, as the filler I showed is around 10 years old now

There are a few little spots I’m not 100% happy with, but am prepared to live with. I never intended to make this a show car, but the bootlid I just cannot live with.

I’ve painted two other cars in my time, but never to this degree.

I got the looms back in this morning. They were filthy, so a good clean up with Inox was in order. The funny thing is, I almost didn’t pull them out because I was worried about not being able to get them back in, but it was really easy.

I got home from a nightshift at 6am, stole a very quick 3hrs sleep, & started the repair work to 2 doors, 1 guard & bootlid. The guy at the paint shop recommended this body filler to me.

It is very very good but a bit pricey at $41 for about half a kilo.
So I sanded all the panels off then applied the bog. The pros make it look so easy to get a nice smooth coating, it’s not bloody easy.

I got better as I went along though. The doors were a lot smoother.
Anyway, once dry I sanded everything back. This body filler sands way easier than the hard sh*t I used previously. It still took some work though.

Hopefully I’ve done it properly this time. Tomorrow I spray again. Hopefully for the last time on this job.

I’ve had to put the painting to one side for the time being due to life & weather.

So today I started some of the fiddly stuff.
I replaced the foam seals on the heater box.
I put new heater line grommets in the firewall.
I refitted the pedal boxes & brake booster & clutch master.
I also cut out all new wool underlay for under the carpet.

I’ve been looking for a long flexible sanding block that doesn’t cost a fortune seeing as I’ll be unlikely to use it again. I came up with this foam board from Bunnings for $12.50.

You can cut it with a Stanley knife, & it’s firm but slightly flexible. It worked a treat.

So tomorrow morning I re undercoat the bootlid & door again. Then Monday morning I’ll sand & re-paint early before it gets too humid. I really do think I’ve nailed it this time. But either way this is the last attempt.
Then Monday arvo & Tuesday is reassemble time.
