1991 NA6
Been awhile but I have another MX5. Picked up and straight onto club plates. I dropped the ride height to much but took a few pictures anyway. Will be doing sprint days so will see you around.

Welcome back! Doesn't sound like you'll be turboing this one right away.

Re: 1991 NA6
Cheers, no turbo plans as I want something I can compare lap times to. This car only has a mx5 plus roll bar and hsd coilovers. So will be good to ad stuff slowly to see how it effects lap times.

Re: 1991 NA6
New mirrors today
Also picked up a 1.6 Vlsd. I hope I will be gentle enough and it will not break. Also did the foamectomy. Fitted a Beavis engine dampner and a cheap pod. Just a few more maintance things and will be ready for the track.

Re: 1991 NA6
Had a sound like metal on metal over aggressive pot holes from right rear. Trying a few quick fixes of, softening the dampers and going from 195/55 to 205/60 (14"s) this helped and cushioned the ride but it was still there, just not as bad. So i decided to put her up on jacks and check over all the rear suspension starting with the shocks. Went to undo drivers side shock and noticed the bottom shock bolt was turning and there was no action. My first thought was a spinning nut but I could see the nut was still in place and not rotating. Next thought is either nut thread is mush or bolt thread is mush. After playing for a while it become apparent that this wasn't going to be a quick job. So I decided to drop the rear arm so I could work on it more comfortably on my bench First thing I noticed once free I could feel the shock had quite a lot of vertical slop. Possible cause of metal on metal sound.
I didn't want to go chasing a lower arm so I decided the nut and bolt were expendable and easier to post if bought over the net. I removed the side tabs of the nut and got to work.
With not a lot of operating room I drilled from the side
Starting with a small drill bit I worked my up
Until it split
You can see both the nut and bolt threads are gone, who ever fitted the coil overs must have gone nuts on the rattle gun when tightening up.
Now all I need is a new nut and bolt. If this helps anyone I'm happy.

Re: 1991 NA6
It's the right colour. Pity about the bolt. And that rollbar looks low. Bring it to P.I tomorrow, you can enter on the day. ;)

Got a new high tensile bolt from good ol bunnings.
Found it a little ironic you would put anti seize on and then mutilate everything

Interesting.....modded car on historic plates. Didn't think I could do that. But then I'm in the nanny state!
