This has probably come up before, but seriously why was this designed the way it was? It really makes no sense to me, why is it so convoluted and why are both sections of piping coming from the one end of the inter-cooler?
Even from a cost perspective, to have a the charge piping entering a inter-cooler from the passenger side would mean less materials, plus more space in the engine bay, less length of tubing to build boost through (wouldn't this mean better boost response?).
Can someone enlighten me?

The boost response wouldn't change.
They did it to make install as easy and modification free (no undertray cutting) as possible and to keep anything from rubbing in any places. Rubbing doesn't matter if its minor, but clueless new car buyers dont like it.
They should have used smaller pipes.
