I have seen them on the later models with the tabs on the subframe.
If you have a pic lying around it will be helpful.
Cheers!

I'm currently in between jobs and have plenty of time to catch up fitting some parts that I've accumulated.

The car has always been missing paint on the lower side of the brake booster and bubbled paint underneath it since I purchased her years ago, however the leak has not been present until recently.

Figured I'd install the booster/master, larger front discs/calipers and braided lines.

Will also be repairing the paintwork under the booster when I get the old one out. This means that I'll be taking my time over a couple of days, as I'm yet to source the paint.

Here's what it looks like now.

The replacement booster/master cylinder is from a later model so I'm hoping I dont have too many issues. (Mania do not stock new master cylinders and I'd have to wait for one from Japan)
I've read that the earlier ones have a stud that remains in the firewall, yet the replacement does not.
The electrical connection is also different.
Fingers crossed it's not too difficult to sort out.

eyes glued on this. I now have the full NB8A driveline. with the booster/master to go. I think the NB8A also has a slightly different front rear bias....

I'm curious is this booster bigger? or better? would it make a difference on braking? or is it just that it's newer and that it's in better shape than your current ONE?

I found this one day in my random internet travels: https://www.blackartgraphics.com/pages/mx5-brake-bias-model

Might help answer your questions STM :)

That's very cool!

I'd guessed for years that the fronts did 80% of the braking and it looks like I was bang on the money.

I had a play changing the front discs and pads only and came up with the following:
With the NB brakes it goes to 82% but the heat really drops. The dynamic bias goes from 50.5% to 55.4%

I do have a proportioning valve but not sure if I'm going to use it yet.

Thanks for sharing Cus, love your work :D

From what I can tell the booster is the same size. The only difference appears to be the change in electrical connectors.

I made the decision to use the NB one as the booster is already attached and it saves me sanding and repainting my old one. It will also be much easier to access the area that I need to rub back and respray with the booster/master out of the way.
Took me all of 10 mins to pull out.

The below pic shows the original on the left and the newer one on the right.

Here you can see the damage to the paint from the leaking master.

I'd just lightly run a screw driver over it to see how easy the paint will come off.

A minute later it looked like this.

The NB is also slightly different f/r bias.

just getting my head around that currently.

that apop is an eye opener..

not sure if I want to go for an adjustable f/r bias thingy. Unsure if they are legally allowed.

Yes, as can be seen in the link Cus posted.

Stock NA is 80% front and 20% rear.
Couldn't find what the front rear split is on a NB but if you punch in the selections on the link it states 68% front and 32% rear.

I'm hesitant to fit the Willwood proportion valve as I believe that it is illegal.

Maybe I'll have to get the NB rears. I barely drive the thing anyways and wanted to sort out the master now. Can always do the rears later.

What is an apop?
