Nothing sinister. The top bar would block visibility out the back (because of my height), makes it more difficult to raise or lower the roof from in the car and also makes the car stand out more to the boys in blue and those would be racers.StanTheMan wrote:you removed the roll bar?

I also prefer the look of the car without it

Having just removed it, can you comment on the ever controversial stiffness debate?

Much prefer the car without the bar for same reasons outlined by speed.
The pictures you posted upon request not so long ago without roll bar really appealed to me as a great example of OEM style and class.

Rohan, that's a good question.smy0003 wrote:Having just removed it, can you comment on the ever controversial stiffness debate?
At speeds between 40 to 60 I definitely notice more scuttle shake and I have the NA8 tower brace fitted.
As far as chassis stiffness goes, I really need some sort of scientific method to test the level of rigidity.
Surprisingly it is not near as much as I expected and I've just blasted through the Nasho.
I've also realised that my car accelerates very rapidly from 5k. Sure it boosts from 3 and is really punching hard at 4 but 5k is another world.
Believe it or not I've never really hit full throttle prior to today. Maybe as I dont have a passenger that I'm married to in the car.
The other thing I tend not to do is hold revs above 3 or 4k. Usually I just change up in gear to baby the car. Well I also did that today and I'm surprised how well she goes.

I'm very much the same. I have virtually never used full throttle in any of my cars (why I probably didn't initially experience some of the issues most other modified SE user's experience). I also tend to change up earlier than a turbo demands, having come from sixes and eights where everything runs out over 3500rpm The odd few times I have gone full throttle and used the full revs I've been amazed - almost frightening - especially to my license I'd be that person in a cruise arriving at way points after everyone else has finished their coffees 'n lunch
Just on the roll bar - looks nice without it, but I also like the solid/squat look the NA's get with the roll bars. Either way, your car looks great

Thanks Kev, that's nice of you to say.
I guess I grew up with Valiant's/Chryslers and although I've owned and built a few pocket rockets/rotaries, I appear to be maturing faster than I had recognised. Saying that I've always been an aware and responsible driver. Well, since older than 18.
I'm not sure if knowing the cost of damage or going to the effort of learning and doing a bit of DIY has directed me to be like this or if it was just how I was raised.
I'll be holding onto the rollbar for a bit so that if ever I do get to the track I can whack it back in but for weekend drives I'm enjoying the car more without it.

You better not be still thinking of selling it.
One of those lifetime held regrets....for sure.

Haha. Since the stock seat is back in I'm slouching a lot. I really need to figure out how to bolt a stock seat to the floor, then I'd get a nice pair of NB seats.
The bit that puzzles me is how do I get to the rear bolts if it's a floor mount.
Seating position is my biggest issue. The rest is just expected in a sports car.

This has always concerned me too. The rear of the seat is certainly going to overhand the rear bolts.

Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: Speed's boosted NA6
If I was to use a bracket as below, and drill 4 holes big enough to fit a socket from under the car and then fit rubber grommets in the drilled holes, maybe that's the trick?ManiacLachy wrote:speed wrote:The bit that puzzles me is how do I get to the rear bolts if it's a floor mount.
