I think the only difference is with the early NA6 gearboxes there is the danger of getting it stuck in reverse.
there is a fix with the reverse light switch being a bit different so the leavers doesn't get stuck behind the switch.
In the recall they marked the gearboxes which got stuck in reverse with some paiunt. I doubt that paint would still be there today.

I have a NA8 gearbox in mine & couldn't tell the difference. Unless I was sold an NA6 box......
The other difference is that you may have a speedo switch for the wrong diff ratio
