DAY 27 -3 hours

yes- I am actually getting sick of working on this project myself and will be glad when its over

i knew i couldn't get away with this job so I pulled the rear bar off and got to work giving it a light wet sand with 800 and let dry. wiped it over with grease and wax remover and by then the temp was up to about 18C and perfect for spraying .

Image

gave both sides a bit extra paint too

Image

sat it aside to dry and afterwards i had to do a few slight repairs to the side brackets which clip the molding to the body. worked out fine

Image

gave it about 3 hours to dry and then slapped it back on the car  and while at it fitted the rear tail lights

Image

yesterday when i was spraying in 24K  and was a bit tight with the paint

Image

side shot

Image

and today

Image

so I think it was worth my time to go back in and do it properly and it wouldn't have happened if I had done it right in the first place  although the wife did say it looked fine -how would she know  but I knew

DAY 28 3 hours

either side of the windscreen had suffered a bit from sandpaper scuffing so I rubbed both back with 800 and re done them - much neater now

Image

Image

Image

then decided to pull the covers off and the interior was a bit dusty

Image

Image

even picked up a few stray leaves

Image

the vacuum cleaner tidied it up some

Image

so I decided to mask it all up and go for a dash re-spray too - coat 1.

Image

here's coat 2.

Image

coat 3 and day over

DAY 29 - 3 hours

had a bit of a problem with the right side rail getting it into position and tightening the 3 nuts down - but eventually got there but no picnic  no idea why -just did!

Image

Image

earlier I had re-painted the other plastic parts with vinyl dye

Image

brown/davis roll bar back in

Image

re-sprayed all the boot carpet with carpet dye

Image

Image

then I took a look at this panel

Image

decided this time to rub it out with 2000 wet - rear bar not touched

Image

then use the cutting compound via hand rub

Image

this is going to look really nice when complete BUT too much work to waste on a mazda

could be all right- time will tell when I get to the final cut all over stage

now I've been working on this car on a daily basis for about a month and not disturbing the inmates up the back. the breeding season almost over for them and 5 pair continued on and of those 2 pair hatch some good stuff

here's a photo of them - 8 in one nest and 5 in the other worth a cool $5,000 :D alive and not quite so much dead

so although it was a worthless venture working on the car I will make up for it on sale day in bird land

a couple of closer shots of the cut polish on the car and remember its only been hand cut but not polished yet, i'm really impressed with the results considering I've been clear coating everything for 15 or 20 years

my opinion would be now -the clear is a long way behind it

Two unrelated questions - what sort of vinyl dye do you use and what sort of birds do you breed?

if you have wondered why so many photos this time in the paint thread its probably because its the last time  I've taken a bit of time in doing this and the car runs out of rego in a couple of weeks time
I don't plan to register or drive it again so it will probably have the plates pulled and into the garage and covered over and its over for this car

meanwhile today I always wondered why I couldn't fit the passenger side seat bolt in and why I only had 7 seat bolts in total and where I lost the other one. well the original hole was factory plugged and it never had a bolt in the first place just a plastic stopper. still threaded of coarse

Can't wait for some shots of the car in sunlight.
The current shots under the verandah make it look like its painted beige...

yeah ... I know  it's suppose to be polar white. I think its from reflections from the verandah. looks a bit whiter straight out the door
