Got hit by a truck :(

The final damage bill was a barely believable $16k. To replace an outer door skin and rear vision mirror, a front guard and to pull a dent out of the rear guard...plus painting. $16k!

Doesn’t take much to write off a car these days!

My son's Aurion recently had to have the complete roof skin and front roof support replaced, interior roof lining and windscreen side linings replaced, bonnet replaced, windscreen replaced, rear view mirror replaced, roof light/cubby panel replaced, front bumper repaired, driver's side front guard repaired, windscreen side supports and both front doors re-aligned to roof (had been pulled inward with the impact to the roof), rear window removed and re fitted/sealed, driver's side headlight replaced and headlight protectors (pair) replaced, then the front bumper, bonnet, roof, right front guard, driver's door, windscreen surrounds, boot and some other minor parts all completely resprayed and "faded" into the surrounding panels to ensure any minor color matching flaws of what the body shop called quite a difficult colour to match weren't obvious, plus various dash components and the instrument panel were removed and cleaned or replaced due to glass fragments that got in from the cracked windscreen and wrecked them.

Total bill was $7500 and was a beautiful job done on it too .....

Looks like Mazda parts are rather costly by comparison :roll:

Now you know why Sheen can afford to have their own lawyers......

Wonder how much the price would have been if there was no insurance involved?

Good point. I mean how much can a new door and front quarter panel cost? Maybe $1k for each panel at the absolute most? The paint? A couple of hundred bucks. So $14k worth of labour? Even at $300 per hour that’s 47 hours work. Really?

Its all very odd- does a repairer just write their own invoices without a corresponding authorisation and get it paid- hard to believe.

The other party’s insurer (GIO I think) paid up.

Someone is making a lot of money out of it. Resulting in higher insurance premiums for all.
I have a lot of reservations regards the insurance industry.

16k is a joke. I agree. It just means everyone of us pays more next year. Same goes for all your dodgy house insurance claims, etc.

Can't blame the truck too much when you have such a small car in such a dull colour. Surely it costs more to have a grey car insured compared to a red one
