DAY 16

boot lid. pulled all the hardware off and bagged it

Image

then rubbed it all out with the 400, best of all no clearcoat involved

Image

top of the lid was still show a bit of scaring from the 120 cut sand

Image

here I cut the boot with 240 and then down to 400

Image

that's about it for today-boot finished and its raining so no priming today

Image

so I then decided to give the bonnet a bit of a going over

Image

wet rubbed a fair bit of colour off the underside of it

Image

Image

flicked it back over and ran over the rough spots with 240 wet first

Image

then finished off with 400 wet

DAY 18 -about 3 hours

etch primed both front guards and then waited about 30 minutes and primed both

Image

Image

guards now complete

Image

started priming underside of the bonnet

Image

paint pot not on tight enough and tossed out a few drips or spirts of paint. had to stop work wait 15 minutes rub it out and go again

Image

meanwhile I removed the pot-drained the paint-cleaned it out and tighten it down. could have save a bit of work if I had kept an eye on it

Image

Image

then continued on with the underside spraying

Image

flipped the bonnet and etch primed the edges

Image

wait 30 minutes for it to dry and primed

Are you planning to run the rear boot-lid spoiler?
IMO, i prefer no rear spoiler on the SE's, however you will lose a bit of originality seeing that its an SE.

DAY 19 - 4 hours

started the day with a heavy mask off of the front end

Image

Image

Image

then primed then hit the underside of the boot with the new colour "POLAR WHITE" from the 68 XT GT FALCON ERA

Image

I then decided to hose down and set up the tarp under the verandah

Image

I put a couple of the top coats on prior to a rub down with 800 wet

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

I wouldn't say I was 100% happy with the polar white and it didn't look the same as I recalled 50 years ago  and I was down $320 on the paint. so I bought another litre of paint and added it to the mix. I thought not another re-paint and I've only just started

so it appeared to lighten the colour a bit so time will tell

With the decision to go white, I've been thinking "kelvinator" all along but wasn't game enough to say it.

Epic job Mr Bunter. Just when I was getting used to a leopard skin bonnet you go and paint some colour :)

That leopard skin bonnet is Bunter's muu-muu (think Homer Simpson when he got large).

DAY 20 4 hours

after working on a few areas I decided late today to go straight out and lay several coats of paint on the boot and let it dry overnight and tomorrow I will cut it back with 1500 wet and polish it out and see exactly if I have the Westinghouse or kelvinator colour or if I don't like the colour at all - I will abort! so today went something like this but not in sequence

guide coat on boot for the rub out

Image

rubbed out

Image

top coated

Image

rear end

Image

Image

Image

pained

Image

Image

both front guards

Image

guide coat prior to the 800 wet rub

Image

Image

completed

Image

same with other guard

Image

Image

day over so if the colour doesn't come up to expectations its a lot easier now to jump ship cut my losses on the paint and try again  before a complete spray.

DAY 21 - 5 hours

wet rubbed the boot lid with 800 and after that hit it with cutting compound and it looked fine to me so work on

Image

after the wet rub

Image

and the hand cut

Image

guide coat over the bonnet

Image

after it was rubbed out I required somewhere to hang it so made up this. bit risky but....

Image

Image

can be hard to see at times when the spray is flying. better the spray than the bonnet. wife later told me it was Friday the 13th. if I had known that earlier I may not had risks the bonnet move

Image

it actually turned out pretty good too. the reason for the hanging -just in case I got spurts or drips over the bonnet from a faulty gun

Image

I then did the top coat or part of it on both front guards and they too came out pretty good

Image

Image

Image

Image

I then decided to clean up the drivers side door area with a wipe down with 800 grit followed by grease and wax remover

Image

Image

masked up the door then decided -stuff it I will spray this area too

Image

meanwhile the neighbor arrived home and decided to put out her washing - half way through this exercise. I thought stuff it I gotta carry on which I did  and completed the side

Image

I really don't know why these people just can't stay at work  anyway there is always tomorrow so rather than spray a load over her washing - I ceased work

Image

Image

now if your reading this text -this colour is hard to call it looks fawn in the top photo and this one straight after different angle -white

You're ripping through it now.
When you say top coat, do you mean clear?
