Help Deciding - Test Drives?

Postby aoeu » Mon Oct 02, 2017 8:26 pm

So I've been scouring threads, reviews, and videos for a few months trying to decide which path to go with an MX5. Can't decide between FI NA/NB, or NC 2.5. I don't feel like I'm getting anywhere trying to decide by reading other people's opinions. What I really need to help decide is just to go in sit in one and experience it. So I'm humbly asking if there are any guys here who have 30 minutes to spare to show me their car and go for a quick, sensible, drive with me as a passenger.

Looking for
- NA and NB, turbo preferred
- NC 2.5 conversion

I'm in Bankstown and happy to travel to you on a weeknight or weekend. Thanks all!

Will this be your only car? A weekend car? A track car?
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

hows next weekend, early Saturday.

Mine is an NA6 N/A extensively modded. Its noisy & dramatic, involved & raw. est. is about 125 rwhp in current set up.

You prefer turbo. which is absolutely cool with me. I figure.....if you drive mine you'll know for sure that's what you don't want. Or maybe you'll like certain parts of it. Which may help you decide. And what you want from your car. Or don't want.

I live in Seaforth.

PM me if youre interested.

I have a turbo NA6 and live in Lugarno. Since you're not far I'm sure we could arrange something.
Mine is only used on weekend drives and never goes to shopping centres or the like.

Rather than list what i like it's probably more helpful to list what I don't like or wish was better.
1. Suspension travel is far too short in the rear.
2. NA/NB was never made for tall drivers.
3. NA6 diff is weaker than the 1.8s and not all are factory LSD.
4. Being a convertible there is always something rattling or shaking.
5. They are basic and raw but this is also a plus :)

I do still have some niggly bits to sort out such as a squeaky left rear brake and a sound coming from my driveline that is possibly flywheel, gearbox or diff related but it should give you a good enough idea :)

Stan, thanks for your offer. You're a bit further out than Speed with a similar car so I'll hit up Speed for now. Many thanks for your kindest offer however!

It will be a weekend car, so a bit more rough and grunty is ok because i won't have to live with it every day!

I've texted you. Stan has organized a meet up on the 21st of October that is worth attending. You can meet the gang and we all love to talk mx5s.
