Adaptronic e440 universal on NB8A

Postby hks_kansei » Sun Sep 24, 2017 7:44 pm

Per the title, a mate is selling a universal Adaptronic e440 for cheap, basically he bought it for his Z32 racecar, but never installed it (and never finished the car)

Anyway, would this work on an NB8A?

Only thing I know off the top of my head that could be an issue would be that the 440 universal doesn't have alternator voltage control, but I figure that it's easy enough to throw an NA8 alternator on my car, or even just wire in an external voltage reg.

So yeah, other than that, are there any read headaches I'll likely find?

(Future mod plans are for just an N/A engine, cams at first, and then when the engine craps itself bore it out while it's apart)

My advice as an NB/SE user :

Personally I wouldn't buy it.

Alternator control was always a bitch on the e420 and the 1st-generation e440 wasn't great either (right hand side in photo below).
I spent hours getting it "right" on the day and under different conditions it didn't work at all.

The final e440 versions, the small one on the left, was MUCH better/easier, they really put some work into it.

Having said that, I know that several NB owners switched to NA alternators to get around this issue.

Worth noting, the one he has is he small one, like on the left.

And yeah, just a regular universal fit 440, not the plug and play Mazda one.
