Yep can't fault Andy and hyperdrive, I think this is almost a perfect amount of power for this car :D

..

Unfortunately the car hasnt been on the road for a month or so.
Undergoing a big nasty paint job!

Image
Looking a bit neglected in the backyard

I am paint stripping the car a panel or so at a time. It has been tedious to say the least as you really have to devote some time to get anything done, hard to keep motivated sometimes.

Image
My plan is to get the whole car done in 2k epoxy primer in my backyard then hire a booth and smash on some colour. Which I have chosen mazda's DU mariner blue.

Image
Here is the rear quarter that I did this afternoon, came out straight as :D. Each panel I do comes out better and better, mainly because I just whack on the paint thicker each time.

However I am taking my time with this as I already tried to cut corners on my rear bumper and it came out like sh*t, can see way too many high and low spots

Have tackled the left side of the car now,

The whole car is almost all sanded down ready for some primer, besides the front bumper, Sort of dreading that as I hate sanding plastic. And not to forget the windscreen surround which is going to be a nightmare as the paint has cracked the worst there

Unfortunately there was a bit of bog where the quarters meet the doors on both sides? And some on the left fender so I will have to redo the repairs to make them a little better than they are now.

As soon as it's sunny out im hoping to get the whole car covered in the liter or so of primer I have left and assemble it back together and either pay someone to put colour on it, or hire a booth and give it a shot myself.

Anxious to drive this thing again :)

If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

A bit of an update the whole car is in 2k epoxy primer, panels came out fairly straight, still a bit of imperfections to go over.

Was very eager to test out the colour I bought so I did it on my rear garnish

All i can say is wow, thats straight off the gun, unfortunately theres a fair few 'nibs' in it when you look closer which is either from too high pressure on my gun or just dust.

It's also a bit orange peeley, probably because Im using a very cheap gun (was planning to buy a devilbiss flg-5 for the car and hire a booth to do the rest of the car)...

Going to let it dry off and try and sand a few out and buff it back in a few days, not sure if it will work or not though

Very excited to get this all in one colour :D

Whole car is in primer ready for a closed door, rubbed back with 600grit. If all goes well I should have a booth next weekend and will be spraying it myself.

Decided to just do a bit of a slapdash job on the doorjambs as I wasn't even intending on doing them originally

Image

Chucked all the pieces back in maybe 6hours after I painted, seemed pretty dry by then.

Image

Gave the door lock a bit of black paint just from a can, came up great.
Didn't end up doing the bits on the actual door themselves because that looked like a sh*t job and im not too fussy :)

On the home stretch now...
Hardest part has been removing paint from plastic components, just have to sand the front bumper and wing mirrors and im good to go. :D

Top job Jordan :BROADY:
I’m with speed on this one to keep the badges off or to the absolute minimum.

Just enjoyed a full read of your thread. You've done a great job - really nice build! There's a mariner blue NA6 round the corner from me and it's a striking colour. I'm not always a fan of black wheels, but along with the black hard top it all really suits your's.
