Re: engine dimentions BP-4W
i weighed the BP-4W recently. I need to confirm But I think it was
180KG
engine had oil in it
included the Gearbox (with no oil)
I can confirm tonight If I remember
engine is sitting there so I can measure if you like

Its all good.
Ive organuised a engine crane to remove it out of the car on Sunday night. My wife & son are certainly not strong enough. Or It will be too crowded.
I need one anyway to remove & replace the engine into patchy anyway....as well as lifting it onto a engine stand. I just went & bought one.

That would be about right.
Gearboxes are pretty light, maybe 20kg or so?
The difficulty with the engine is that there's nowhere to get a decent handhold without ripping your hand to pieces, hence bring some rope to tie onto bits to make a handle from.

Re: engine dimentions BP-4W
well looks like its settled but its not a good idea to carry such a heavy dead weight in the rear of small car. Amongst other things apart from it likely being overloaded how does it get secured i.e. ratchet strapped to what and a sudden braking action or quick change of direction can easily shift the load. Utes , trays, trailers all make it so much easier and safe.

Re: engine dimentions BP-4W
120kg is hardly an unsafe weight to carry in the back of a car. 120kg is less than 2 adult males.

Re: engine dimentions BP-4W
As above, 120/160 kg is a similar weight to having a couple of passengers in the back seat.
As for securing it, just pushing it against the rear seat backs and then using a ratchet strap to hold it down will be fine.
Otherwise, pretty sure a rented bunnings trailer is under $50 for 24hours.
But for something small like a civic, I'd be mor confident with the load being in the car, than a trailer.

I can confirm 181 KG as described above. Good luck with it StanTheMan

Re: engine dimentions BP-4W
For your consideration- look up the vehicles towing capacity and the ball weight max usually 5% or !0%. The calculation will reveal if an engine of X kg exceeds the makers design.

Re: engine dimentions BP-4W
But the engine is not being placed on top of a tongue and ball. It is being placed inside a passenger cabin that is design to accommodate 5 passengers and luggage.Mr Morlock wrote:For your consideration- look up the vehicles towing capacity and the ball weight max usually 5% or !0%. The only thing to consider is your automotive engineering expertise is nil. So therefore your advice should not be taken into consideration. A weight place over or between the wheels has nothing to do the the leverage weight placed on the rearmost part of a car.

Re: engine dimentions BP-4W
chaps.
Mr Mortlock is concened. and i would probably say the same thing to my Plater son if he was doing this journey.
of course it going to feel a bit different. and no kamakazi maneuvers..... cause i would expect it to feel different.
not as though i havent done tbis before. although it is a first for me doing it for 1000 ks
my only concern is between here & the border. QLD drivers are nuts. If traffic between Brissie is anything like it was today. ill stick to 1 lane only stick to tbe limit & keep a safe distance. nothing heroics.
Once back safe over tbe border......i will relax
LOL.....fucken hell. QLD Drivers.....so agro and blatantly oblivious and protectionist terretory at tbe same time.

Well done STM!
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Re: engine dimentions BP-4W
I need to apologize to all our QLD members in saying all QLD Drivers are nuts.
I figurerd that Hwy between Gold Coast & Brisbane must be one of the busiest roads in Australia. Its also Pretty dammed wide in sections. Is it 6 lanes in one direction? But its chockers.
Anyway after hitting NSW roads on the way back It was smooth going until Sydney. You know people moving over & so on. But getting back to sydney. I realized. Although QLD drivers are mad. Sydney drivers are on farking Crack and Ice when they are driving. LOL.
You're not all bad QLD'ers.
The chap I visited converts cars to Electric cars. Some very nice work. He's also currently converting a NB8A to electric.
Her has some kind of Skyline. Built for racing. He recons 0-100 in about 2.5 seconds. Hes on the verge of having it engineered. Its not far off.
for your enjoyment.
