Lotus Lakeside Driver Training Centre timed laps Sunday 27/8

Postby adidistyle » Tue Aug 15, 2017 12:11 am

Lotus DTC is on again soon. This is a heaps big fun day on the Lakeside DTC track.

It's like a horizontal hill climb, but with nothing to hit unless you mess up mega-big time. Standing start/flying finish. Each run is about 50 seconds, and they turn 'em over pretty fast so it's a busy day. It's a challenging short course on bitumen, and I think the skid pan section is concrete. Whatever... there's ups and downs, variable grip levels, and turns aplenty. The Lakeside Driver Training Centre is at the rear of Lakeside Raceway main track.

It's also a round of the Inter-club Challenge so there will be plenty of interesting machinery to look at and compete against. The MX-5 club is doing quite well in the ICC, and this event is well suited to our cars as it favours agility over power.

To compete, you'll need:
Your signed original entry form
Racers Clubman licence (or higher)
Civil license
Your car in good condition (it will be inspected)
The usual safety gear
CTP letter (if you car is QLD rego'd)
Your car club membership card

If you've been doing QR or Lakeside sprints you should be good to go.

Checkout the official info here... http://www.lotusclubqueensland.com/dtc-27th-august-2017/ Entries close Friday 25 August 2017.

I'd encourage you all to have a crack at this event. It's intense, it's fun, it's challenging. And a lot less intimidating than a "real" hillclimb. Plus, you'll get a lot of satisfaction seeing your little MX high on the scoreboard.

Working for this one :(

Here's a clip of the usual layout, done in my wife's 86. It's a great fun little track, especially if you're keen to get a bit sideways here and there without much danger.

I'm really looking forward to next one now. Anything starting with 48 seems achievable.
It was great to see club members Mark, Jeff, Peter and Keith out there having a blast. And speaking of blasts, Mr.B in his hot little mx5 had just back from his run and was waiting to change drivers when he got clobbered by an airborne shade tent, that got picked up by an extremely localised gust of wind. So localised and sudden I did not even notice a wind, and I was less than 10m away.
Lotus may have to revise their risk assessment and safety guidelines.

Those Lotus DTC daysare fun days, happy to be slowest MX-5 there, didn't have a run where I didn't make at least 25 mistakes... :? :(
