I'm thinking the best of those is maybe in the 1.05s?

Track is warming really cold day. 1.10.36 4th run
Goal is to crack in the 1.09. No way I can find speed to get to a 1.05

Well done on the lap times for your first time there.
I'm sure with more practice you can get well under 1:10

Last time I went there I did a 1:08, but was having engine problems and wasn't getting full power.
Check my sig for basic details of car.

I felt there was a little more time to cut. Thanks. You have now set a benchmark

Good work. Yes seat time will get your time down and that is a great effort first time out. Around the 1:08 would be a great time at WP in a registered car running R Specs with that sort of power.

1.08 would be great.

So far I have;
Yellow speed coil overs non pro version
Braided brake lines
Hawk race pads
T25 turbo 160kw atw
Roll bar
Nitto nto1 tyres

What else can I do to improve the car?

hey mate, mines a similar spec build ,done by Dann. He'd be sad to hear the car has been tuned down somewhat from his tune (which was 160kw rougly and ballistic fast), currently 135kw atw, around 9psi from memory. I have yellow speed pro and I was around 1'10 at WP also, but on yokohama AO50 205x50x15. I then put on a rear wing and front splitter and now on 1'08.9. I'm headed to WP this Monday with Circuit Club if you're interested in having a look. I think the day is booked out though. I'm thinking 1.08 will be achievable but imagine that would be pretty close to my limit, I'm sure pro-driver could do better still.

Yes seat time / training will be the best improvement you could make at the moment and when you feel like you are getting close to reaching the cars potential it will help you start playing with set up and other mods and be able to get a true indication of what is helping and what is not.

The Trackschool days with John Boston would be a great investment. Have you watched any YouTube videos of other MX-5s going around Wakefield? These can sometimes be useful provided the driver knows what they are doing.

Thanks Ivan, track time is important given it was my first time at Wakefield. I'm heading out tomorrow again to see if I can improve, I'm confident I will and aiming for a low 1.09 to high 1.08.

Couple questions;

What splitter and wing have you got?

Do you drive it on the street?

Why did you tune down the power?

For your first time at WP, that is an incredible time.

Splitter is from the Blue Rocket part out, I'm using the smaller of the 2 that I bought.

Wing is Sard, bought off a forum member. It's a bit larger than the APR Racing one that's common.

Yes, dríven on the street only too and from track. Doesn't scrape too badly as my car isn't set very low. I wouldn't drive it around for fun anymore.

My mechanic, who has also built turbo mx5 before used his own dyno and found the torque to be quite high so he tuned it down a bit in the interest of reliability. i'm not interested in owning a car that spends more time in the shop than being dríven so I didn't argue. May be due to different dyno or different school of thought, I'm not really sure. Don't have the dyno charts unfortunately.

have fun tomorrow mate
