Here's a question for you Dann. So I hear you loud and clear that an NB8B is the best starting platform for a solid turbo set up. That model aside, what's a better base for a solid turbo setup... an SE or a late NA8? Is an NA8 worth starting with if that's the shape one likes most.

Re: SP Vs SE
Any NA with nb8b running gear.
Look everything BUT the chassis bolts on so ultimately you start with an NB8B or you finish with something which is 80% NB8B.
The SE is heavy as ƒü¢k and by the time you've made it good its just a heavy nb8b turbo.

Not sure I agree with this so could you "u Hanson" this comment? (ie. "Please explain!")..
The SE has some additional bracing and heavy boat-anchor rims but other than that I can't see where the "heavy as ƒü¢k" weight is coming from.
Don't worry about dying, worry about not living!

Re: SP Vs SE
Its got everything you wouldn't want if you were building a pure sports car. Slippery leather seats, boat anchors, bodykit and everything to suit one comes with a suitable premium price.
A bunch of 'mid life crisis options'.
Certainly none of it is advantageous when building a traditional sports car.
Apart from a bodykit and rims it also has a heavier drivetrain.

Re: SP Vs SE
All the MX-5s are light insofar as comparisons are concerned. If people want to drive around in featherweights they can be quite extreme and drive a Clubman style racer i.e. the choice of 1%. An MX-5 is pretty much the bare bone sports car- its not a Z4 ,370Z ,Boxster, 911 , or an SL something. Tradition is relative- any MX-5 is an improvement in tradition but retaining and improving on the driving and reliability of what to many of us are the traditional sports cars of the 60's and 70's.

Crickey - I feel (...and probably look like) Rip Van Winkle after being away from this site for such a long time. So I took the bait...
SE vs SP...? Mmmm let me see. The SE has "the looks", LSD, lovely interior, body kit, 17" wheels, Bilstien suspension, soot suppressor. Overall a cracker of a package, and fabulous value for money back in 2004. A beautiful car and worth every cent in my opinion.
Would I swap one for my SP?
er,...nope.
