Nb8b/c with full Twistmount street kit.

Costs 20k for a MINT one track ready, beautiful manners and 270rwhp with 100% untouchable street legal compliance.

I guess for the same money you could have a stock SP in similar condition or an SE with intake exhaust FMIC and about 11 separate flatspots and 160whp...

SP has a sexy carbon fibre airbox and decent turbo on an otherwise stock NB which meant low boost levels for safety - no LSD either :(
The intercooler plumbing is crap too.

SE has sexy leather interior, body kit, LSD and small IHI turbo but is let down by restrictive intake, low boost and poor ECU - a half-arsed turbo attempt by Mazda, they didn't even install a boost gauge!
The "token" intercooler is a joke.
Blows less smoke than SP.

... and don't get me started on the SE's 17" boat anchors!

PS: Dann's absolutely correct but common sense is NOT what this fight is all about so please keep your logic out of this "fight".
Don't worry about dying, worry about not living!

SE wins. Both cars are retarded for different reasons, but because people don't get butt-hurt about SE's being extensively moddified to fix the shortcomings, it wins.

Now, where's the popcorn?

Lachlans right.

Its just a big Lego toy, bolt on any parts that YOU want.

That's easiest with an SE because of depreciation and aftermarket support.

I have always been grateful to Mazda for releasing all the NB model variants as completely made up sets of replacement or upgrade parts for the better NA models. Just off the top of my head I know there is a BP4W SE head and a set of seats out of an SP in my NA8.

In this day and age I wouldn't have thought anyone buys a stock SP or SE without knowing their drawbacks. But there's a particular attraction to cars like these for people like me that transcends common sense.

For that matter, common sense would have dictated I kept Mexie after all I'd done with that car - and with what I've spent with the NB8A and now this SE since I sold Mexie, she'd have been a pretty f@#*ing awesome NA by now!! But would I have been as happy as I am now? Nup - I really like the SE, even with it's faults even after the stuff I've done so far.

Between the SP and SE, my thoughts are pretty much what Lachy mentioned - no way would I have been at ease modifying an SP, and I like to mess with these cars, so the SE was the better choice. Besides, the SE just looks so much better ....

If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Good work by Nitro. However how many thousands go into the compliance work. I object to supporting govt bureaucracy.

Its not too bad in terms of cost.

Your car has to actually pass the tests, and so that may cost more. A good example might be that you need to spend more time on a dyno or pay an expert more than usual to get the emissions down, but thats fair. The actual costs of the tests and the paperwork itself is <1000, assuming you have a good relationship with the people. the govt gets basically none of that except tax for income.
