the divide was really just play & justifying purchases . SP owners have always been getting bashed.
at first it was about the clutch ,No 4 throw out bearing, manifold nuts & lack of LSD.
Then it was SP vs SE
Now its stock NB vs SP which is better to modify

Its still an MX5. They are still part of our community. SP owners are a passionate & defensive lot. But should we be surprised with how much they get bashed?

on the other hand. Do the NA6 owners ark up when we get bashed about the crank issue or lack of power? or the matchbox diff? or NA8 vs NA6? NA head vs NB head?

NA6 owners have accepted it. it doesn't even register. Hasn't for a long time.

But the MX5 was NEVER intended to have pop-ups!

:BROADY: :BROADY: :BROADY: ..... I eventually sought after and worked the SE because of the extra "stenghthened bits in a slim attempt to hold the power I intended to run (I built it for me, to be the car I wanted- not to moth ball it in standard form thinking how much I could make back should I sell It anytime soon......I didnt have bucket loads of funds to blow on working a standard NB to get the same result)
if I had a genuine SP- that is THE collectors MX5- So being the case, theres no way I would have changed it from factory specs- its a diffrent mind set when you buy a 1st of a kind (i.e the end result of All the various turbo inceptions- it a car built from factoy to be an example of Mazda's future direction...... tx3, familias etc, that proceeded to get a workable version that became the SP that eventually evolved into the SE. The SP is a rare and innovative version of the MX5.... the turbo set up may have been done better, the tune could have been more refined and wiring, plumbing and refinement better (Thats something I spoke to Matty Spry at lenghth who was the 1st " un official on road tester when he was working with Lachlan Riddel when they were contracted by Mazda to create the SP)- fyi, Matty wasn't totally impressed and thought it could have been more refined and taken a lot further...... needless to say, he severed from Chiptorque to work his ownn ideas to brilliant results!!
To cut my ramble short..... the SP is much chop, for what it was at the time it was conceived, it was an eye opener in 02- as I said before, do you want the scotch you either pay for, or the scotch you either drink..... life is too short to dwell on a passing thought for a lifetime of deliberation on somthing that will always be unique- blessed are those to can lay claim to owning an SP.
(PS... dont get me wrong, if you have to pick a factory turbo mx5 to build into a monster, the SE cant be faulted!!)

..It's been a while, but maybe you should invite Snow White for a run one of these days?

BTW, my grandson Jacob, loves to watch that short movie I made from your GoPro footage around Lakeside following one of those McLean's Bridge Happy Laps. We actually watched it again today.

Snow White is alive and well and has just turned 118,000 kms young.

As for the question on this topic. Answer = Yes.

Greetings Mr Darby.. Great to hear the grandson is starting to enjoy Snow White as much as you do.Most definitely we should try and organise a little drive somewhere soon.
And yes that was certainly a lot of fun at Lakeside.
As for mileage I'm only doing roughly 2000k a year these days..lol
