Got hit by a truck :(

Postby RBH58 » Wed Jul 26, 2017 9:50 pm

5 months old before it got it's first scratch, but I don't think it will buff out!

The Mazda Machine Grey paint is a special 4 layer paint finish that is (apparently) an absolute pig to match. I know of one guy who had a complete respray to match one panel!

Not happy! Expect this is going to be a long protracted process.

Feeling your pain RB.
In the end, it doesn't matter how it happened - it JUST happened.

A guy I speak to at my Mum's retirement village just had his BMW 3 Series Convertible backed into by a 4WD Ute. Massive amount of damage.

Really sucks dude - with that colour, you'd almost want the entire car resprayed... the OCD in me would want to sell it if it didn't match completely.

Bailing out of a 5 month old car on 3 yrs 40% residual would mean I'd have to kick in at least $5-10k of my own cash to bail out early, it's not really an option. I'm stuck with it for at least another 12 months.

Find a good panel shop and they'll get it as close to new as possible and enjoy it for what it is and drive the heck out of it over the next 2.5 years :)

make sure that if repaired and not a perfect match reject the repair as many times as needed, they will eventually re do the entire car. this is where the difference between a good insurance company and a bad one is seen.
best of luck and sorry to hear.

Found a (local) repairer with previous experience handling Machine Grey paint. I'm confident that these guys will get it right. Going to take 4-6 weeks though

The insurance company's preferred repairer said that he didn't want to touch it!

Guessing the accident was a classic 'SMIDSY' from the truck.

Put this to sleep until you get some decent resolve. Greg.
When you turn your car on, does it return the favour?

With regard to insurance claims, always go with what you want and not what they suggest or prefer (RE the insurance company preferred repairer)- you have the right to repaired as original specs..... they always, always go with contractors who quote the cheapest cause it usually covers the majority or "common and standard repairs"- :?
