G'day fellas.
Newbie to forum. My name is Mick and live in Perth and have an NA project build on the go. I Bought an imported wreck probably a Eunos about 8 years ago to do a resto mod on a Mazda 808 with my son that never eventuated. Time has come that something needs to done with the NA and happens my daughter turns 21 this time next year and thought it be nice 21st birthday pressy and should be enough time to have it ready for then. I managed to find a rolling shell for a sweet $50 to transfer all the parts from the wreck inc all the running gear into. Got it all in and connected only to find no engine light when I turn ignition on. It turns over fine but no fire or start but fires but not run with Start you Bastard. Am I lacking a power connection somewhere. I don't know where to start looking to trace the wiring issue if any and I don't have a manual or wiring schematic. I know its not the globe because it works in another socket. I just remembered it was a front ended wreck and the engine did receive a little bit of impact but not too heavy, just squashed the plastic induction tube and sway bar
I still have a number of parts to chase down to complete the build so I will be posting in the wanted section shortly once I can resolve this starting issue.
Any positive remedy to solve my issue would be greatly appreciated.
Regards Mick

Re: no engine light
Gidday Mick,
Welcome to the forum, There are many possibilities. But you gotta start looking somewhere.
there are 3 earth wires on the engine.
2 on the drivers side 1 on the passengers side connecting engine directly to the chassis.
the 2 wires on the drivers side, connecting onto the engine head (block) just near the CAS. At the end of the fuel rail on an NA6.
I'm not sure what exactly they connect. but one of those 2 wires had broken off while doing some work on the head recently. (maybe it connects the ECU?)
check it.
In my case the engine stopped running when the wire wasn't connected.
the 2 wires come out of he tharness & originally joined with 1 connection on a small bracket. At least that's what it was on mine. Mine was a AUDM version

Re: no engine light
Welcome!
Given the running gear was from a wreck & given that probably included the ECU, after checking earths I'd be removing the ECU & then unscrewing the top & bottom ECU covers to check inside the ECU as there's a chance it's got wet at sometime. Also, given no engine when ignition is turned to on, suggests ECU as per following: http://wiki.miata.net/tiki-index.php?pa ... tart+Guide &
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B1P63nz ... edit?pli=1
Note, latter is for the 2004-2005 MSM or MX5 SE.

Re: no engine light
So it fires on SYB, which indicates a lack of fuel, ie ignition system is working
Start assessing the fuel system.
Find the Diagnostics box on the LH side of the engine bay and jump FP to GND, this verifies your fuel pump is working.
Go from there - ie are you getting fuel to the rail, at decent pressure.
Are the injectors firing?
Etc.

Re: no engine light
Another thought - have you got the fuel lines on the right way. If you have, double check them.

Re: no engine light
Thanks for the replies fellas. Been doing some tracing but not getting far.
Earth wires all connected.
ECU is nice and clean inside.
Got power to the ECU.
Engine fuse all good.
EFI relay clicking as per test suggestion.
Mediafire pdf doesnt open with password.
Got 3 bar pressure on fuel line.
Fuel lines are on correct way.
From reading on other forums the JDM Eunos wiring is the same as USDM wiring but different to AUDM mx5 so having trouble figuring which wire exiting the ECU goes to the engine light. AUDM wire is Yellow/Black as is into the cluster. Matching pin on My ECU is blank, the wire into my cluster is Green/Yellow but no Green/Yellow on the ECU. Very confusing.
Anyone got a copy or know where to get a JDM wiring diagram.
Cheers Mick

Re: no engine light
Worthwhile I think to check the cars diagnostics for a clue. A quick search should turn up the codes and testing procedure.

Re manual, have a look through these two sub-forums as this is where we normally put links to manuals:
