MX 5 availability in Brissie
Hi everyone
New to the forum -first post of many I hope it looks great!
Plan to buy my first MX5, know very little but to make a start I guess , what might I get in Brisbane area for 35K, favour a manual not red in 2l.
Also is there a place on forum where I can catch up on tech terms like series types NC /NB and so on.
Thanks in advance

Play hardball at a dealership and $35K will get you a new ND 2.0 manual roadster with change for mods, if that's what you're after. Everything else should be less.

Re: MX 5 availability in Brissie
Welcome! Does it have to be a brand new ND or is a low km ND acceptable?

Ring the dealers who are selling cars. Ask what is the least they will take. Then ring 'em again with the results of your first ring round and ask how much less they will take based on the first results.

If you can find a few K extra would you spring for the GT? The extras make it worthwhile IMO however each to their own.

whatever you do with new cars you lose money when you sell... often thousands and its essentially a mugs game unless you have a business or money is no issue. You might save a little on the deal but its not going to amount to much- it's the new car deprecation that soaks the Dlrs up. You want a new ND shop around and buy one that will have longer term demand.

Widen your search to Sydney and factor in a $150 one way plane ticket.

Get to know your new car on the 10 drive back home
. (Although you will start to get sore around Coffs Harbour)

That is a beaut car for the price, we will be renting a car from next week to get around brissie so if nothing presents maybe a trip to steak and kidney may be the go, its just a much bigger market lets face it, maybe lifestyle negatives but Sydney is still what it is.
Any hassles taking it straight back to QLD once fully paid for? Like additional stamp duty costs and so on?
Thanks for that

Nope, should be fine to drive it up then just change it to QLD rego when you get a chance. I will be going through the same thing in Dec when I move up there, Had enough of Sydney, time to slow the pace down and live at the beach (I could never afford the beach in Sydney lol)

As you already permanently reside in QLD, you only have to pay QLD stamp duty.
Only slight variation to driving straight back to QLD may be if seller wishes to remove the NSW plates, in which case you'll need to get an unregistered vehicle permit (UVP) to drive back to QLD. UVP were usually purchased by phone in the state or territory in which you buy the vehicle, but I understand this has recently changed/become more flexible in at least some states/territories, so check with RMS & QLD Transport.

Re: MX 5 availability in Brissie
If the seller wants to keep the plates, they swap them before you buy the car and give it to you with basic plates, it's not a cost that should be incurred to the buyer.

Re: MX 5 availability in Brissie
I'm referring to where some sellers don't want to sell their vehicle with plates on that are registered in their name, particularly when the buyer is from/heading interstate. I know there are precautions that can be taken in these instances, but some sellers persist with this approach, especially if they've previously had a bad experience.
