....and furthermore....
Those of you with Mazda 3s - my Son has a 2006 (BK) Mazda 3, 2 Litre.
As far as I can tell from my research, that appears to use a 65/67mm 14 Flute Oil Filter Wrench. (?????)
(Not sure I believe some of the "Fitment info " provided on the eBay seller listings)

I remember we had the Devil's job to get the filter off last time, so it might be good to have a Filter Wrench for that one too.
It is a low mileage example so he will have it for a while.

Well, just as well I didn't take any notice of the info on eBay.
I decided that I would check the size of the Oil Filter Wrench required just by buying the nominated Oil Filter and measuring it.
It is certainly NOT 65/67mm as it says on the Seller sites on eBay.
It is 74/76 same as the size of the Filter Cap on the Mazda 6 for which I have just bought the 74/76mm Filter Wrench.
So I can use the one Wrench for both.

Just called in to my local Autobarn store to buy a Drift oil filter for the MX5.
I started buying these because they have a nut on the top and with my 'special tool' it is much easier to get the thing off working down from the engine bay rather than up from underneath.
The assistant tells me that the one for the MX5 (MF 436) is not available any more, and offered me a K&N which would be fine except that the nut on top is about twice the size of the one on the Drift.
I had a look on eBay, and surprise, surprise, Autobarn's on-line store has a Z436 listed. Now, I am not sure whether a "Z436" is the same as an "MF436" (what it says on the box) but I have emailed Autobarn with the query and am awaiting a response.

A Z436 is just a regular Ryco filter isn't it?

Hi PRR, yes - the RYCO Oil Filter for the MX5 is a Z436 (I have a spare one of those) which suggested to me that the Drift one shown on the Autobarn On-line shop on eBay, and described as a Z436 was probably suitable for the MX5 also.

A bit more info related to the MX5 'Drift' oil filter.

I received a reply from a 'reception person' at "Automotive Brands Group" - the outfit that apparently franchises 'Autobarn' outlets.
She advised me :
" Please note we do not sell on ebay, only via our Click & Collect website, https://www.autobarn.com.au/click-collect , so not sure what you are referring to."

which is kind of confusing as they certainly DO sell on eBay as can be seen by the link that I posted previously.

Anyhow, I phoned a number that I found on the 'Auto concepts' website (Auto concepts appear to be the importer of a number of auto products including "Drift".) and got to speak with a gent that informed me that "Drift" products are not currently available but that his business has taken over from 'Auto concepts' and he expects to have rationalised the products that they will handle in about 6 months. He said that the Z436 Oil Filter advertised by Autobarn on eBay is indeed the correct one for the MX5.

So, there you go. Hopefully they will be available again by the time I do my next oil change.
