Brilliant tks again - in that case your ECU is PnP for the 1989-1993 inclusive NA6 as well as the 1993-1995 inclusive NA8. The change from 8bit ECU to 16bit ECU occurred in the Japanese domestic market in August 1995, but it took until beginning of 1996 for the Australian domestic market to get the 16 bit ECU, meaning your ECU isn't currently PnP with the 1996-1997 inclusive NA8 with the 16bit ECU, which has the different ECU connector as per the NB8.

That's some intersting info, thanks! I didn't realise the NA8 used that connector during that period. I've populated the connector with the additional injector lines which I know are required by the later 1.6s (US market I believe), but I haven't seen any other changes to the 2 connector pin out, so I can't see any reason why it shouldn't work on any model that has that.

There were very slight pinout differences between 1989-1993 NA6 ECUs & 1993-1995 NA8 ECUs - will see if I can fin them.

Quick update... The PNP ECUs are now in production and expected in 3-4 weeks! It's just a small beta / testing run of 10 units, but if there's no problems then a larger production run will come shortly afterwards.

The Beta units will be $150 USD + postage if anyone is interested

Exciting! What firmware do you use and is it upgradeable?
Also, what is likely to change from beta to production or is that a wait and see that all is well kind of deal?

it's the Speeduino firmware and yes it's definitely upgradeable! I've been doing monthly firmware updates for at least the last 2 years, with some months being under the hood type stuff and others are all about the features. Eg since the start of the year I've added things like flex fuel control, closed loop boost control etc.

If no issues are found with the beta run, then the production ones will be identical. There's as much stuff on there at the moment as I really want to stuff in, so it's really just about testing that everything is working. I've been running versions of this PNP setup on my car for the last 6 months or so and things seem pretty stable, but need to get a wider audience for testing :D

Final testing this weekend and they'll go out next week. Beta run is pretty much all gone, but I'll post back here if anyone flakes.

This continually blows my mind! Keen for more updates, especially in regards to ITB tuning. :)

Well the Beta units are all set and mostly all claimed. I'm slowly reaching out to those this week who expressed interest.

As for the ITB mode, I really (really!) need to get them on my car now and start having a play with it. There are few different ITB mode strategies that I've seen, and I'm yet to be convinced about which method is the best one to go for. A lot more reading and some trial and error are in my future for this I think

This may be a stupid question, but could an adapter loom be made to use this in an NB8A?

I think you have a few extra sensors on the NB8A which need taking care of.

youd have to perhaps run a few NA6 sensors on your current engine. And get rid of some others

nothing is impossible. Have a look at swapping your 1.8 into a NA chasis on Miata turbo.

It wouldn't exactly be plug & Play

They can run those engines on the NA6 ECU

1989-1993 NA6 & 1993-1995 NA8 ECU were 8bit, whereas 1996-1997 NA8 & 1998-2000 NB8A & 2000-2004 NB8B/C/D ECU were 16bit. Have read on Speeduino forum that MX5 PnP for 16bit is planned, but some are already in the process of adapting the non-MX5 PnP version of Speeduino - see following: http://speeduino.com/forum/search.php?k ... mit=Search

Other than the sensor differences etc, the biggest hurdle for an NB8A fitment would be the alternator, which is ecu regulated on the NB (as opposed to internally on the NA)

And the VICS system, although that wouldn't be too hard to deal with, since I think you can just disable it anyway.

Could he perhaps source a NA6 alternator & crank pulley? I think that's what they do on the swaps. But thats getting into some cost....
