They were from MX5 Parts (com.au) on the central coast.
They were very good to deal with.

Not had much time to do much with the car lately and also had been hanging out for some special parts to come back in stock.

As anyone who has (tried to) changed an oil filter on a MX5 knows how mach effort it involves. I had drooled over a Thompson Oil filter re locator for a couple of years but they had stopped production and there were none available second hand. I bought one from Ebay, shipped from China but when it arrived my head could not get to the point that I wanted to fit it. Fortunately Thompson's decided to do a new production run and received my kit a week ago.

I made time on the weekend to get the kit in and do an oil change. (you don't actually have to do an oil change to fit the kit)
Install time was about 3 hours from start to finish including clean up for me and I did not rush it as wanted to make sure there were no leaks.
I am very happy with the fit and will be even happier next time I need to do an oil change.

On a visit last week to Boyracer to pick up a center console for a friend I managed to find a Auto widow switch. Very happy with this. Simple peasures. :)

After about 18 months of on / off work I settled down this weekend and put some time into my polished cam cover.
It is certainly not a perfect finish I am pretty happy with it. Hope I get time to fit in the next month.

Looks great
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Had a fun day on the Eastern Creek North circuit (Druitt) on Sunday.
It was a perfect day on the track with a light fog in the morning with a top temperature of 26c.

Having only tried Wakefield and Easter creek South circuit before this there was a degree of nerves about taking on turn 1.
Happily the day was a lot of fun and quickly found my rhythm on the track setting a best time in the first session of 1:22.17.
After a session with no timing the next timed session netted a 1:21.35 and many times around this pace.

The final session saw no improvement in time but improvement with my confidence on the track and able to push a little more to each corner.
Looking forward to the next time out. :D

Found a few hours spare in the last few weeks to fit a few new parts.

Fitter HEL braided brake lines all round. Thought it wise to replace the 18 year old brake lines as I have little details on the service history.

Today I fitted the polished cam cover that I finished a few weeks ago. It finished off the engine bay nicely.
I still debate with myself if I want the front strut brace.

As much as I am enjoying my NB8a as a weekend and track car I have decided that chasing more track time out of this car will diminish the enjoyment of the car as a weekend car. So as I really enjoy driving this car with the wife I decided that a dedicated track car is the only solution.
I spoke to a few people and it seems the NC is a much easier car to campaign as a track car at an improved pace with simple mods. So the search for a track car began that would not break the budget. A couple of weeks ago a good example of a written off car came available at the Pickles auction. I decided to set up an account on the off chance it would sell at a price I could afford. The auction day arrived and despite only being able to view the car on line I decided it was worth have a go at the auction to see if I could purchase it within my budget. At the crucial moment I decided i could make one more bid and the active auction rapidly slowed and I seemed I owned a MX5 NC.

So now to work on getting it back to Sydney.

So a transport was arranged and the car arrived on Friday. Once loaded it was towed to my warehouse and the damage assessed.
There are a few issues that needed to be resolved so time for some problem solving.

Fortunately a roll cage was sourced this week and this led to a source for the parts required for the repair.
So after a fair bit of work on the weekend a few parts have been fitted and the rear wheel straightened. Just a bit of thought about repainting but at this stage most of the mechanical issues seem resolved. The car seems to be a one owner, serviced by the book. :)
Hopefully my panel beater can pull out the rear guard this week and onto some suspension upgrades.
