Thanks for that. Not that cheap, but they're certainly worth considering by the time you have to drill the original rails and then work out a solution for the passenger side fitment as well.

If I had my time again I would do these. Much easier than all the offset drilling and adjusting to be done otherwise.

Latest purchase is a fire extinguisher. Will just strap this to a piece of flat bar aluminium, which then be bolted to the two mounting points at the front of the passengers seat.

Cost me just over $10 with the $10 credit I had at Supercheap :)

So, after a much longer wait than anticipated, the work on my car is nearly complete. Car finally made the dyno yesterday, for it's first run with the Megasquirt ECU. Dann had a couple of niggling issues with computer cables and a faulty air intake sensor, but he finally got it tuned around 7pm last night. Made a healthy 222 rwhp at 14psi, which is pretty much maxed out on the standard SE turbo without pushing it too hard.

He's back at the dyno this morning checking the cold start etc, and then just needs to tidy a couple of small things before pickup on Saturday. Forecast is that flash, but should still be a fun drive home ;)

That is a very nice power curve! Definitely longer than expected, it'll feel great to be back in your car, I hope you have a great drive home. I'll be interested in taking a peak at your tune as well to compare to mine (we're pretty similarly setup).

Wait, wasn't this meant to done back in March? What were the delays?
Look forward to catching up at the track again. With that power I think you'll have some super quick laps.
Cheers,
plohl

Will definitely catch up somewhere soon.

The delay was really all down to Danns workload. At the end of the day, he's only one guy and I understand that he can only do so much, but he possibly takes on more than he can handle at times. He apparently has had a number of troublesome cars to sort, that have been previously modified by their owners or other workshops. The dyno that he used to use around the corner also closed, and he now has to travel about 30 minutes or so to use another, so that has caused him some issues as well.

I did agree to leave it with him for as long as it took to do the job properly, but had no idea at the time it was going to be 3 months. I was fortunate that it isn't my daily drive, but having more of an insight on how he runs things, and him knowing more about me know, I'll definitely try and better organise a definitive time slot for me to drop off the car and have the work completed in the future.

Can't wait to get to the track, just waiting on my new rims and then find the cash for some R specs.

I just love that HP curve! No massive onslaught, just builds and builds.

Wait, Dann no longer has a dyno?

Nice results. At 14psi you'll need plenty of cooling if you take the IHI turbo on the track. Might be good to have a spare turbo on the bench. They should be very cheap now at 12-13 years old. For track work you also need to do something about that ridiculously puny turbo-to-sump return pipe. It'll crack and weep oil onto hot things at the slightest opportunity, putting out plumes of smoke which marshals will not like.
UK since return: Standard NC2 (horrid), C200K, ND2 BBR, NC2 BBR200 (loved it), NC BBR300 (better than BARMY), V-Special, turbo NB8B (my 84th car)

No door to door racing for this car plohl, just a few track days here and there when I get myself sorted. :)

Yep, the power is very linear now, much different to the old setup :)

Haven't known Dann that long, but he was using a dyno around the corner from his workshop 3 months ago when I first met him, but that shop has since closed down. He now needs to travel a bit to use the next closest dyno.

Plan will be to eventually upgrade the turbo when the IHI has had enough. Will definitely have to keep an eye on temps at the track, and check out the return pipe as well.

While that isn't earth shattering power it's very usable power and I bet you'll love it.

I plan on upgrading my turbo at some stage but the factory one is competitive enough for now, I might need to upgrade the brakes first.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Exactly, it's not all about the peak number ;) Haven't really had a chance to give it a good run yet, as the trip home was a boring late night run up the freeway. Looking forward to getting it out sometime over the weekend.

...and that's why it's a 'slippery slope'. Start chasing more power and everything else like brakes and drive train needs consideration as well :) I don't think I'd be chasing a lot more power when I eventually upgrade the turbo. I think 250hp atw will be more than enough power, and something a decent set of pads, rotors and some cooling ducts can handle. Same for the drive train.

Finally got to give this a clean after the road trip home and took it out for a 20 minute run around the local hills. Not silly amounts of power but definitely a big improvement. Makes all the right noises and puts a big smile on my dial.

Having a run in the Time Attack event at QR on Thursday in The86Shop's turbo 86, so will take this out for a drive out to the track then.

Our little collection.
