Ebay coilovers

Postby lonesailor » Mon May 22, 2017 9:51 am

Has anybody had any experience with ebay coilovers? I have a '96 NA8 with 230k kms as a toy car, not a daily driver but she does about 15k kms a year including occasional track days. I would like a set of Bilsleins or Koni's but can't justify the $1000-$1200 required. I see a set of (new) coilovers with adjustable damping for around $400 from Aus on ebay. This I could stretch to as its probably not much more than standard aftermarket shocks. I'm very happy with the MX5's handling as is, particularly as compared to my 325k km Hilux daily driver, but feel it could be better this my lap times also attest.

I totally get the being able to justify things.

Ive not had experience with e-bay coil overs....But I would be reluctant. If they are4 super hard they might be good for the track.....but say goodby to you fillings....

see if you can find some konis or something 2nd hand.

speaking of Koni. I have them on Patchy. Installed about 15 years ago. There is so much better stuff on the market now.

It would be a good idea to drive a car with good dampers installed & you might see the difference.

15k km p/a is a lot. for a non daily

A time tested truth is you get what you pay for.

If your Hi-Lux is one of those solid axle 'mr bumpy' models anything would be an improvement. You can get good replacement shocks from the US for $6-700 landed.
Never put the top up unless the storm has a name.

If you want to buy twice, buy cheap. Better to try and find some used BC coilovers or MCAs than buy ebay new.

Have you priced KYB AGX , they are adjustable. Had a set on my NA and was a happy camper.
