I will be doing a test paint soon (bonnet, front bar and front 1/4 panels) to see what it looks like, good having spare parts at home.

The silver stripe will become red, blue will be green and there will be a white and black pinstripe separating the red/green on the side but not on the middle stripe...

I was going to say that my partner refers to the car as a 'whore' as it is a big hole and takes all my money but this is a family friendly forum...

Good to hear my perseverance aka stupidity counts for something other than just my ear to ear grins recently as the car has come together, only 7 years later. Still not finished, of course, as more and more items become consumables and, of course, the car is now 13 years old - well, some bits are!

... and there's another tale about a goldminer who ran out of perseverance and sold his stake and tools. The buyer struck rich 2 feet later.

Probably why I have a string of ex-wives. Paying all that off means I can only JUST afford my MX5's.

Name: Cherry
Owner: LiteIsRite
Type: 1990 NA6
Mods: mostly stock, with some bolt-ons like frame rail braces
Background: don’t usually name our cars, but “MX5” just doesn’t roll off the tongue. I guess our American cousins are lucky in that way, with “Miata”. Anyhow, we struggled with it until recently when my wife was showing me a storage bag she bought to have at her feet on our drives together. It’s black, printed with a pattern of cherries. I looked at it, and the name “Cherry” just seemed obvious.

What do you call a 'Crystal Blue' NB8B? Why, "Crystal" of course.
It was an easy association as "Crystal" is my favourite Elton John song off my favourite Elton John album "Too Low for Zero".
I like the 'association' of Crystal being a 'relationship-tester' - per the song - as there was a bit of friction in the Rocky household when I announced I was buying a new sports car (my own money from a second job).

Crystal is pretty much bog-standard (apart from HT, scuff-plates, clear indicators & carpets) which is how I like my cars.

I’ve always admired NB’s in that colour, and yours is a great example!

Regarding a song tie-in, in my post I forgot to mention that “Cherry” is as in Neil Diamond’s “Cherry, Cherry” from 1966 (and recently revived for a certain chocolate bar )

I called my red NA 'Miranda' because we got lost on the way to Hanging Rock.

The NB Titanium is just 'The Titanium' because a name hasn't occurred to me yet.

We named the white NA 'Bianca' because it means white. Very imaginative!

Titanium NB MX-5 2002
White NA MX-5 1990 "Bianca"

Red NA6 MX-5 1990 "Miranda"
