Did one side today, not much shed time as I'm the domestic help at home at the moment :)

Slot cut, started with a dremel finished with my favourite too, the air body saw

Made up a plate a little longer than the mount, same width. If this is not stiff enough I will use some stainless steel plate and extend it further into the boot and a bit of sikaflex. Dilling the holes into the plate, using another drill bit to keep it aligned works a treat.

Attached the mount with temp bolts so can drill through the boot for the 2 extra bolts that will be used.

I haven't seen it done yet but wonder if a frame whose bottom is mounted to the floor of the boot and top sits flush against the bottom of the boot lid when closed that has bolt threads for the wing to be mounted to would work?
The wing could only be mounted when the boot lid was shut though.

Here's a side profile view of my vision in classic 1980's ASCII-art CAD form:

where: B = Bolt and the car is facing left.


This solution provides solid mount points for the wing that wont flex (probably illegal for motorsport though since the wing needs to be removed to access the battery if it's in the boot - could make/add an external battery disconnect knob to get around this).

I'm thinking of a similar concept to this! The shell will become a test bed for a much stronger wing mount.

Trust me the photo was purely to bring you out of hiding MattR :)

The photo is from one of the cars I shared a garage with at WTAC 2016. I do prefer Lokiel's version as it is what I'm planning.

I like the photo version and thought you were doing a similar thing but more simple.
Lokiels version is a good idea though but i have no idea about the force applied to the bolts etc.
Interior frame would have to be perfectly flush.

I'm back home later this week, so next week can dig out some examples of wing mounts used in earlier super taxis and some sports sedans.

Or just go all GT3 race car and swam mount the wing from the rear chassis

Magpie, there's already some good local prior art on wing mounts, that you've no doubt seen before, and possibly even forgotten about it.

With my limited access I was able to supply pretty pictures of swan mounts and mounting options and now you want to know where to get them from??????

Will have to relocate the surge tank now. Will just cut the bottom out of the boot as well so the surge tank can go in the middle...

Remove the camera and side wing mirrors and you've solved the issue.

I'm pretty sure mine moves around a bit but it's only a problem if you notice it or it falls off. Sure make it more rigid if you can but don't build some heavy scaffolding at the back end of the car... it will slow you down more than the wing.
