In previous posts touching on this where I got some great info from mrs B and The American on just how much the SE 6 speed can handle, there is a local option, Neat Gearboxes in Melrose Park SA, that do full rebuilds ($1850 for a 5 speed) as well as shotpeening internals to add strength- just another option :DIY:

MiataRoadster sell a delrin shifter tip bush ,about $30 delivered. These dramatically improve the gear change in the 6 speed. Especially 2nd to third. Best $30 I have spent,
