Wheel bearing upgrade path?

Postby davekmoore » Fri Apr 28, 2017 4:28 pm

So, it seems front wheel bearings wear at about the same rate as brake pads when you have a bit of power and 225 R specs.

What is the upgrade path from the standard wheel bearings?

Brake ducts, done. Wilwood 6 pots, done. Polymatrix H compound pads, done. Driver ability/training to do less braking, not done.

Flyin' Miata do a "blueprinted" version of standard hubs at less money than an OEM one, but still with ball bearings, so I'm not too hopeful of a solution there.

So I may need to go with the roller bearing ones, even though there's a suggestion they are still in development mode.

Here's hoping.

Terry Bosnjak makes billet ones for mx5's using tapered roller bearings. Can't rate him and his work high enough. http://www.terrybosnjakengineering.com.au/billett-hubs

They're serious race parts and not cheap though. I was fed up by about the 8th front hubs failure....so I have a set on my car.
