hello
I need new shocks and some help to decide.
supercharged nb with after market sway bars. currently engineered and legally lowered on king springs and standard shocks
the choice is simple (3). yellow speed coil overs. pro( $1100) or race( $1300) or kyb non adjustable ($450) with the king springs.
i live in the country so the car goes at 100 km every where. don't race and i do like comfort. and longevity of parts ( i gather the lowered springs reduce shocker life )...but the car only really exists for the pleasure of its performance.
i also like legal.
what do you people think ?

Fitting new shocks will make a great improvement over old ones straight away.
I recently fitted four Koni STR.T shocks (OEM spec) on standard springs at standard ride height with new Fatcat bump stops. These are advertised as being suitable for use with slightly lowered springs as well.
The old shocks were factory original with 170,000 km on them and well past their use-by-date.
Having lived bush I know how a harder 'metro' suspension would make ride comfort on an extended trip in my NB less than comfortable.
They are more expensive than the kyb's but less than the coil overs you list. Highly recommended for a daily driver.

I wouldn't personally buy the street Yellowspeeds and would absolutely not buy the race ones - 12kg and 11kg springs are not what you want, way too hard. If you're happy with your ride height, a good shock replacement seems like the best value for your situation.

I have the yellowspeeds you mention. They are more comfortable than the clubman bilsteins I had on lowered king springs but not worth the money for your situation if you're not fiddling with ride height.
Koni's are great but any good aftermarket shock will suit your needs.

I had a set of KYB AGX, was very happy with them, very easy to adjust.

I think mixxy the fully sick little rabbit will be with me till the petrol runs out
re the issue at hand.. im leaning towards springs and shockers.. mx5 mania have three types bilstein.. koni adjustables... and kyb at half the price... im thinking I also need new bump stops... decisions decisions.. fortunately any of the three are good

If your happy with factory ride height, grab some low km SE Bilsteins. Great combo.

In the end I got the yellow speeds
It was thator standard shocks and the coilovers looked so nice. Not so much more money when the new bump stops added in
Left Sydney for south coast with rears set at 7/32 fronts at 9/32 . Very comfy in the city. Deadly on country roads . Far to soft and wriggly. Couldn't stick to 100 kms due to scariness!!!
Changed them to 16 and 18 respectively . Much better. They're really good now. Still slightly squiggly in the rear
so im going to put another 3 points in.
