I'm after some information about VIN numbers and MX5s.
Not the usual NA mx5 vin question, this car is a mazdaspeed factory supercharged car from 1994.
Its got the Mazdaspeed plate on the firewall, but it doesn't have a cert plate that I can compare that with. It does have a chassis number/VIN that starts with "6T9..."
After some googling it appears this means its either an import, or a repaired car, or in the worst case scenario its a cut and shut... I have no idea why it doesn't start with the usual JMO or NA code, like the aussie or Jap-spec cars normally have.
Does anyone have any idea what this means? Did mazdaspeed have their own serial numbers that they stamped?

Re: Mazdaspeed NA VIN number question
"6T" is Australia
https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Vehicle_Identification_Numbers_(VIN_codes)
Plug the full vin in here and see what you get:
http://www.mazdaforum.com/forum/vindecoder.php
[Edit]
That one couldn't even decode my "normal" NA6 VIN.
I tried another one, it told me I had a 2005 MX5, and a 3rd one couldn't tell me anything other than the fact that it was a Mazda from Hiroshima...

Re: Mazdaspeed NA VIN number question
Current owner is/was a forumite on here & there are/were pics of the vehicle also on here from years ago.
As Cus mentioned, the 6T9... is an Australian VIN applied after the vehicle was imported here, most likely as a private import, as the vehicle is a JDM & not an ADM vehicle. As a JDM vehicle you should also find that there's a JDM VIN usually stamped into & high on the firewall which will feature NA8CE in it.
From memory PCMX5 on here saw the vehicle many years ago when it was for sale well before the current seller bought it.

Re: Mazdaspeed NA VIN number question
Thanks for the advice guys,.
Unfortunately it turns out the car doesn't have the VIN stamped in the chassis, the number is just in its documentation. Not sure where the number came from.
I'm not sure what the seller will do, which is a pity, because it's a really nice car.
Any advice welcome!

Which VIN are you referring to in the above quote - the JDM VIN (containing NA8CE) or the issued after later import Australian VIN (starting with 6T9)?

Re: Mazdaspeed NA VIN number question
As far as i know JDM import VIN numbers start with NA6CE-1XXXXX or NA8C-1XXXXX and JDM imports which are later imported to Australia start with 6U9

Checked archive pics of this vehicle & while the blue MazdaSpeed plate containing the MazdaSpeed serial number is present, it appears the silver Eunos plate containing the JDM VIN is absent.
Its got the Mazdaspeed plate on the firewall, but it doesn't have a cert plate that I can compare that with. It does have a chassis number/VIN that starts with "6T9..."
As you know, as well as the silver Mazda plate containing the ADM VIN, the ADM VIN is also stamped into the top centre of the firewall just above the brake lines. I know at least some JDM Eunos Roadsters had the JDM VIN stamped into the top centre of the firewall just above the brake lines.
Did mazdaspeed have their own serial numbers that they stamped?
MazdaSpeed serial number appears on the blue MazdaSpeed plate.

The car is apparently vin-less, with no VIN stamped anywhere on the chassis.
Any chance you could link me to the archive pics where you saw this car?

Re: Mazdaspeed NA VIN number question
Have you actually physically looked at the car? Or are you just going on what you see in an ad?
If it's got rego and explanatory paperwork, it is fine.
I bet it was registered as a Rebuild, and thus will have an individual serial number stamped locally onto the shock tower.

Saw it online maybe a decade ago & saved the pics, so can't link you, but can email you if you PM me an email address. Really not much to see apart from that already mentioned, & only a handful of pics, but you're welcome to them.
Given the Eunos VIN plate appears absent, I'm assuming the Australian VIN plate, ie an otherwise blank piece of metal plate supplied by the PO with 6T9... on it has been riveted to the engine bay body or is there a yellow personal import plate with the Australian VIN on it?
