Re: Gearbox question.
When it comes to gearboxes, and engines for that matter. There is a very broad scale of what this gearbox/engine can handle and what that gearbox/engine can handle, even know they are the exactly the same. It all depends on what life it's had, were there any defects when produced, ( casting faults, case hardening, cracks ) also was it ever service, thrashed or babied. You could have 300ft pound of torque on a dyno and run it for 2 years on street tyres and never have a problem,,,, put a good set of semis or slicks on.... bang!

Re: Gearbox question.
I wont comment on anything to do with his car and its failures, thats a shitstorm we dont need.
In my experience 300ft lb is fine, Keith and Ron run 370rwhp/290ftlb, backed by 260kph at SMSP as proof and slicks and have no troubles at all. Ians car also had 290ftlb, could put it all down in 2nd on the street with its setup and wheels/tyres and again never a problem. Of course they run stiff mounts which help. 300ftlb is the engines output but its easy to put over 300 ftlb through with a 300 ft lb engine by powering over bumpy surface or aggressive changes.

It's a gearbox failure,,, I thought that's what the thread is about??? 370rwhp well if that's what your dyno says it must be true. Interested to see how it goes, hope they do well.

Feel free to go to eastern creek or bathurst and break their fresh records. 1:09 on north and 48 on the esses.

Re: Gearbox question.
With Beavis motorsport, Keith Hammond and Ken Oconnor, to name a few, all sporting my go fast parts and plenty of trophies among those cars already collected I dont think Ill bother. It doesnt make sense from a business perspective so Ill build something different to show off a different set of skills.

Hopefully we can see Keith and some other quick MX5's at some MX5 Cup rounds. 1.09 on the North sounds very quick and on that power friendly circuit. Having never run it will be interesting to see how close I can get to that time with my modest 245whp overweight NB8A running 18 month old semi's when we get a run there in June for round 3 mf the MX5 Cup.
The esses I assume it must be the time Keith ran in 2b a couple of weeks ago at 27.84 breaking that class record. I can't seem to find the results form the Nulon round run by BLCC last May but I swear I ran a little quicker than that but don't quote me, I could be wrong.

Re: Gearbox question.
Keiths car is 2a.
The north circuit time was first try on 300whp and it makes over 370 turned up. But again its 2a not 2b.

Re: Gearbox question.
My mistake. Read it wrong. Running in 2a. I would love to Keith join us again in the MX5 Cup. We had 21 starters at the last round and I am sure his car would be more than competitive with 370hp and his ability.
