Re: lolmx5's NA8
$150 was well-spent on the rocker cover, it looks great.
If you tried this yourself you'd appreciate it even more, it's a HUGE amount of effort by hand and you probably would have stopped well short of the finish you have now.
I'm not a fan of painting manifolds and heat shield covers.
As you found with the heat shield, it gets knocked about a bit through general work on the car and scratches easily, leading to flaking which looks crap.
Consider just cleaning up the new manifold using Alu-brite.

Re: lolmx5's NA8
... just thought I'd throw that idea out there - it's one of things I love about forums, getting alternate views, the more input the better IMO (even if someone tells you "That sucks!" if it really does suck).
Anodising is another option, the dye seeps into the porous finish during the dyeing phase and the sealant seals it, leaving it with a hard, mostly scratch-proof finish.
I still have my original VTCS intake manifold - when I have time, I may try anodising it (the top half). It's a big awkward piece so I'd need 3 containers that I can submerge it completely in.

Re: lolmx5's NA8
ok a bit of an update,
finally got my Koyo rad and rad cap, installed the fan and placed all the mounting hardware, pretty straight forward, looks awesome and goes well with the rest of the engine bay nicely,
Untitled by lol mx5, on Flickr
Untitled by lol mx5, on Flickr
once that was done drained an replaced old oil and replaced sump plug with a new one and a new washer, (old sump plug had some sort of rubber seal on it, no washer) filled up with new oil ready for a start up soon.
Untitled by lol mx5, on Flickr
Untitled by lol mx5, on Flickrv
after that i realised that the vacuum hose on the cam cover cracked, was old and hard so replaced it with oem parts. the rest of the hoses felt soft so left them alone.

after that i turned my attention to the interior and striped it down ready for removal. gonna see if i can tackle the heat core and give it a good clean up under it.
Untitled by lol mx5, on Flickr
got my cluster hood off with out breaking anything so pretty happy with that
Untitled by lol mx5, on Flickr
once heater core is replaced i can fill up with coolant and start her up for the first time in i think months now ahaha, pretty keen for that to happen
more updates as i get to doing them

Re: lolmx5's NA8
Small update, had a mate come over and help me lift the dash out, came out pretty easy, only thing was had to un pin the new connector for the fog light and a ground wire I added. But besides that it was really easy to come out.
Cleaning it up now but gonna get some felt and foam tape and place it everywhere to minimize rattles in the dash. Have my nb heater core housing ready to go as well. Found that the original heater core seemed to be modified with the pipes and have a slight leak. Could be why my passenger side footwell was wet. I'll upload more pics of the heater core when I can.
Have already taken the Evap system out that was let in with only one bolt ahah, seems like the a/c was defiantly a retro fit. Ac bracket is aftermarket as well, just a plate place on the engine and then the compressor is bolted to that. Only good thing about that is I don't have to find a bolt to stop it leaking oil since it is already there.
More to come

Yep, worth the effort. I used some grey foam (from Bunnings, in the tiling section) and double-sided tape for where the dash rests against the windscreen. Was a snug fit but worked well in the end. Also, get some packing foam, or something similar and stuff it in the dash around the ducts and it seems to help with creaks, rattles and noise reduction.
