before u all start asking me who it is and can i provide u his details
the reason why he is asking 2k, is because his mechanic said he could get 2k for it
strange but wht can u do

so cos i think i know it aint much but 1500 is fair price for the car, (i know its only 500)
he will sell it to the mechanic for 2k and case closed ... wsnt meant to be

Thank him, really. $2k for a colour change paint job is going to be doors, boot & bonnet closed, unless you're getting mate's rates. $3.5-$4k all up spend (excluding $1k the car would owe you) - if you're very lucky - it almost always ends up being more, especially when you have to outsource the work, & of course as you say, then there's the unknowns.

no colour change was mentioned. It would cost about 2k plus to paint the car again not change the colour. the colour is nice. really nice.
and 2-3k for all the other sh*t to fix

No probs - just sounded like you weren't fussed with the colour & considering changing it.

As the owner of an NA without power steering, and an NB with power steering, I much prefer the NA. It's a little heavy at parking speeds but once it's moving it's great. I find the NB's power steering a bit too light and twitchy. So I wouldn't let the lack of power steering put me off.
Why not just buy it, make sure it is mechanically fine and don't worry about the outside appearance? It'll be the best fun you can have for the money. My NA is similar - it has 282k kms, goes like a train, has a pretty good interior but badly needs a respray.
Have fun!

Sounds like it's a good fixer upper for those who like to tinker. These cars are so easy to work on. Not a good fit for you if you are going to pay a mechanic to do everything.
