Re: Daffy's SE
Crank sensor died on me........ and of course it had to happen 200ish ks from home (boonah). Things to realise is when through a small town with one decent mechanic who has a workshop full of local bone rattlers- they have no intrest in a quick and eazy fix- (i just needed for them to order in a new sensor and I would have bolted the bloody thing on myself . I cannot praise the RACQ more than when in this situation and you spin the story right- a free tow for the 200 odd klm plus to your mechanic of choice is well worth the ultra or ultimate cover.

+1 ... well worth the cost and wouldn't be without it. We had a similar situation a few years ago in Mexie when we were in Meningie for a coffee stop on way home from a holiday and went to start it to carrie on and nothing. Local mechanic came out and found a strange spark and said probably ECU and being a Saturday couldn't do much else so asked if I had RAA. He rang them and explained and then passed the phone to me. They gave me choice of a tow home (about 180kms) or Sat & Sun night's accomodation in a motel and then any further required if the car couldn't be fixed on the Monday. I took the tow and we were taken home with the car and assisted to get it in my drive where I could work on it next morning. Great service and not the first time for us as many years ago they paid all our accomodation plus supplied us a loan car for five days while our XC Falcon was being repaired in Ballarat!!!
Anyway just to complete the rather embarrassing saga with Mexie...that night we went round the mate's place who I bought the NA off, for some drinks and I mentioned what had happenned. His son said didn't I have a similar issue once when I was working under the dash a while ago?....ah crap you're kidding I thought...got up next morning...went out to the car...reached under steering wheel and gave the big white plug a slight push...started the car !!!!!!!
.... oops ....

Unrelated but a funny story the response unit mech told me- he had a elderly couple that had a 2+ hour wait for a roadside assist, his car wasnt starting............ the cause of the problem was he had her car keys (they had 2 mazdas) and she had his keys in her handbag.

Re: Daffy's SE
I have to get a new replacement for my odyssey pc925 Battery. Diffrence in cost for wanting to try and have a retailer make a few bucks and help out the independent retailers- retailer quoted....less delivery (about 5 working days) around the $500 mark- on line from SA, free delivery within 3 to 5 days $340. I like to help out the shopfront retails when I can, but not for $200 more for the same thing

I had a look at a few different batterys on line, the Odyssey cant be fautled, unless, of course my bad- if you don't maintain it properly. I had this one since beginning of 2013, but on several occasions it sat idle in the car for weeks on end while work was getting done to run flat, multiple "quick charges", poorly stored when I had it out, and a battery charger from the dark ages I'd say would not be good for it (I got a nice shiny new 8 stage Repco charger on special- 40% off!!!.) I'd say I could possably get something at a better price, but Its just some piece of mind to stick with whats worked for me.

I like the look and weeight saving of an Odyssey. Just can't substantiate the price for an average performance battery.

i always liked the Duracell line of batteries myself now in BIG RED with 301.9 rwhp daffy it has had a name change to match it's vulgar looks - a few years back I purchased the cheapo mx5mania battery for $130 odd and I use to swap it between the Z3 and the MX5 and it's still going strong!

I was always partial to the energizers myself, (bloody Mark "Jacko" Jackson ad's) Now billy, Theres nothing vulgar about a red 5!!! (Especially when its running the 300+ ) I love the re name! many things pop to mind when I think big red...... spicy being one

Re: Daffy's SE
Got the new ebay Odyssey in, arrived fully charged fresh out the box and as described by the seller, ($350 delivered). Fired up the Problem Child good and proper ...For a short time a dying alternator rather than a tired battery did play on my mind.

Re: Daffy's SE
I noticed the air fuel mix gauge reading between 12 to 12.9 on full boost, and also having the idle go stupid and subsequently conking out the motor when comming to a stop while the A/C is running ...........time to re-visit the Dyno me's think's!
