Great work Blakleaf. You're ahead of me now, but like you everything I know about working cars has really been learnt on my MX-5!

Re: What have you done today/recently to your 5?
I replaced the top and bottom gear lever boots, and the bottom bush on the gearstick in my rolling restoration NA. The old boots were totally shot and when I got in there, the turret was dry!
The job was easy - only about 15 minutes - and the gear shift is now slinky smooth, not to mention how much quieter it is to drive.
It was a pleasant surprise to find the local dealer was no more expensive than eBay, and had the parts for me in two days.
Another job ticked off the list.

Blackleaf, you did well with a basic tool set. Good on you for getting stuck in.
Maybe try some penetrating fluid on the bolts for the starter, let it sit and have another crack

Thanks. It has been good fun. Made much easier by not having the pressure of having to put it back together and wondering if it would work again.

Will do, though it is more an issue of not quite being able to get access. Will have another go.

MCA X-series coilovers went in today to my ND. Thanks to Jeff at Automotive Plus for the install and Josh for the advice and supplying the suspension!
I'll write up a more thorough review of my impressions with some pics in a few days after I've been able to drive around for a bit on them. Early impressions are fantastic.

Spent an hour or so tweaking my VE table in Megasquirt. It's feeling much smoother. The more I fiddle, the more I learn. There is a valley of frustration between fiddling and learning though.

Check to see if they drilled any holes into the jambs where they couldn't get access to push out the dents. You will see new black plugs filling the holes..

Re: What have you done today/recently to your 5?
After laying in state for the past 20-months in my garage, my Mariner Blue NA has finally been taken from me. After removing the engine and transmission on Saturday afternoon, the car was taken away on Monday afternoon. I got teary eyed; my wife tried to sympathise with me but couldn't help herself from cheering knowing she could at long last park her car in the garage.
The engine was sold to a couple of lads from an MX5-mad family. Not having a hoist, I was happy that they agreed to bring their hoist and remove the engine. Never having seen it done before, I was astounded at how easy it was.

All that was left on the shell was a fairly new windscreen, the front bumper (damaged in the accident), and the front subframe (?) which I just could not get to budge with my puny tools.
And then came Monday, bloody Monday!

And finally, the bloody money...

So after 9,561 days, or 26 years, 2 months and, 2 days of comradeship, my car is truly gone.
