Was a silver MX5 that I missed getting a photo of.

Top afternoon - thanks to Mark for the photos, good to see you pop in and say hi late in the day. I will confess Adam's new points structure for the MX5CQ Championship did prove the tipping point for me to take my owed day from work and run at QR's Midweek Sprints.

Pretty busy day with the QUT guys turning up in numbers and providing the first car-on-car contact I've encountered at a sprint day with a yellow Renault Megane sport thing giving a Civic a little touch up. Mostly egos damaged. I was in Group 1 with a few fellow MX-5rs (hi to Jeff and Riley) and Group 4 seemed to regularly need a car out to attend to someone post session. A lot of friendly chatter and a great vibe in the pits, with the younger QUT guys especially keen to wander around and chat.

Conditions weren't quite as hot as Lakeside on Monday. I got into a reasonable groove and had a lap in the fifth session on the Clubman layout where I managed to piece together 3 good sectors and came away with a 1:07:2779, finding about 0.75 over my previous PB. Advans felt brilliant, could chuck it in with a lot of confidence.

I'll put up some video once I've finished editing and uploading to YouTube, but a certain BRG NA8 had to be featured first...

Absolutely! There was a lot of effort put into that, it had to be acknowledged!

This was from the last session:

Gestures were for the benefit of Magpie who was on pitwall taking photos.

I like how he went to the inside of the track, not normal :)

Vat happy to accept the gesture :) It is interesting to look at the predictive time to see where you gain/loose time.

Spoke to him after, he was aware I was directly behind him (I'd buttoned off as he'd been quite sideways through 1 and looked in trouble on the way into 2) and he'd figured it was better to recover across the track at speed under some semblance of control than risk spinning up the road and becoming a passenger. Good awareness on his part.

I leave space through 2 & 3 at QR Clubman as they seem to be the spots where you see the most trouble. As mentioned above the QUT boys had some car on car action and it's a salient reminder that even though these are sprint days you're not alone out there.

That Megane was piloted by my son. Looks like it should polish out, it appears like he picked up some rubber off the Honda's rear right tyre at turn three when the Honda ran wide of the apex and slowed suddenly (so I'm told). Hopefully he learned something about sprints from this skirmish. I have now lectured Sean to give slower cars a wide berth and be more patient. It's a shame that Doug Chapple isn't available to lay down the law anymore to newbies. Sean was saying there was a huge disparate speed difference between cars in the QUT group and a lot of cars on track (20). I've dríven that particular Renault Sport and it is way too fast.

The great thing about MX-5 Club sprints is how the cars are grouped based upon previous times/ experience level. A level playing field more or less. I have been stirring Sean up about having his ass kicked by a normally aspirated MX-5 (Vat's ). So all was not lost.

All is not lost perhaps. But is it still in YOUR parking spot?

Only 2 MX5's in round 1 of the Street Sprints at QR, however quite a few at general practice.

Since Street Sprints was plagued with fuel pressure issues, as was general practice as well thought I would do some scenes from general practice instead. I managed 11 laps at sprints and about 20 at general practice :(

Some photos taken of my car shows that it has a lot of roll in the front end, plus the splitter needs to be level :)

Small contingent of MX-5s at QR for April's Midweek Sprint event today, with only two road MX-5s (myself and Simon L) and two MX-5 race cars. Fair bit of interesting older stuff around, much of which broke down early in the day.

The small turnout overall saw us run in three groups, with 6 runs of the Clubman circuit through the afternoon wrapping up just before the rains hit. Simon and I had a close battle throughout the afternoon, and I managed to edge him by 3 or so tenths in the end. This was my first run at QR since installing a 4.3 Torsen in my NB8A and I was rewarded with a 7/10's PB of 66.5109, meaning between the Advans, the diff, and gradually getting a clue about the place I've found around 1.5 seconds since last year.

Video of the last session as I chased Simon down. PB is the last lap.
