I'll read through this thread tonight but is this good turbo for an NA where I am not one seeking a whole lot of power anyway?

A td04 works, so a td05 would too.
Is yours a 1.6 or 1.8?

You can still do it for 2k if you do the work yourself.
Mind you, and as I've said before you'd have to budget for ecu and clutch too.
My build including turbo manifold, turbo, dump pipe, injectors, ecu, cutom intercooler piping, intercooler and new clutch is probably not far off 2k but I've spent a lot of my own time which has not been factored in.

1991 1.6. Thinking maybe I just grab it and then worry about whether I do it down the track.

I think Lucmor has a 1.6 from chatting with him. I drove a 1.6 with a td05 and and it was quite laggy. That said, the car I drove didn't have electronic boost control and had a massive intercooler.

I'm pretty sure that the EVO 8 td05s (there's 100's of td05 variations) are twin scroll, hopefully someone more knowledgeable than me can comment on this.

Thx smy0003 - just googled the TD05 for Evo 8s and I'm getting hits that its a twin scroll. I assume that's better for possibly less lag? The last thing I want is any appreciable lag! I prefer more linear, lower power rather than lots more laggy power. My car is/will be for road driving not track.

Yeah fair enough. It it was a 1.8 it would be better.
A td04 or a t25 would be better in those circumstances but there's no reason why he shouldn't just take the turbo and on sell it :D

Luxmor, you need a manifold which pairs the cylinder gasses to use a twin scroll how it was designed.
Speed, absolutely. Sell it on for a couple hundred dollars... Money for nothin'. I think turboing a car because of a free turbo is like making a wedding cake because you got a dozen free eggs.

Absolutely! The turbo is the cheapest part in a budget turbo conversion.
Budget 4-5k for a completely legal DIY yet tuned turbo conversion that works well.
Part of me wishes that I just bought a written off nb8c and plonked the mechs in my na6.

Thx for your thoughts smy0003 and speed. I have decided to skip going turbo - I realise I am not a speed fiend and would rather use the money towards my eventual respray. I won't take the TD05 as it would be gift to use for my car, not to take and sell afterwards (the original owner can sell it if he wants to).
