Re: What did you drive before the 5?
Those are two terrific looking Spitfires.
I have often seen articles on them in the British Classic car magazines, but I don't think I have ever seen one in the flesh.
Make me wonder if they were a good seller in Australia.

Re: What did you drive before the 5?
They are still about but were never a great seller- you see plenty of Sprites and Midgets but few of the Spitties. For those interested take a look at the GT6 same vintage and maker. We can then lead on to Heralds and various versions of them- still out there as well. You could not knock the Spits and GT6 for looks.

If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

I was once in the market for a good stag. Back then spitfires were all the rage.

Re: What did you drive before the 5?
Interesting connection with Michelotti and Triumph and it was a brilliant success. I still reckon the TR4 in particular was a mighty looking car and it took the Italians to come up with a eye catching shape- a stark difference to the TR3 which looked so agricultural. MGB did the same with the GT getting that designed in Italy and still a cracking looking car. For Aust these cars were common on the road and those cars were never exotics beyond the reach of most enthusiasts.

Re: What did you drive before the 5?
Can responders also post a summary/opinion on their cars, even if it's just brief like RBH58's (loved the Lancia comment, consistent with Top Gear's opinion of Lancias) ?
It's interesting to hear what actual owners thought of them in hindsight.
