Agree. I had to fix a few mates window regulators a few years back and just opted to buy good 2nd hand NB complete regs and unbolted and bolted in.
Was the quickest way for me :)

I have the window taped up, just to be sure there's no sneaky showers happening while I'm at work....

I considered a whole new/other/different reg, but that was going to cost money, and if I spend money, It'll take longer to save money!

Short update. The temporary fix was incredibly temporary.

It bound up on the drum and held the window down... I can now dismantle a window reg while it's still in the door with glass attached to it. It's a skill, it's going on my resume, damnit!

Hopefully tomorrow I see a bike shop in my travels and can get some new cables for the xmas long weekend no-work extravaganza....

He was a day late, but if he's going to bring car parts, I don't mind, not even a little bit!

It's a 4.1 open diff out of an nb8a with all shafts and such required for future Cus to install in place of my NA6 diff. It's no an LSD - but for the price, I don't care.

Any recommendations for storing it? I was going to put some oil on the ends of the shafts and wrap them in gladwrap so they don't collect surface rust, or put it all back together and have a T-shaped irritation in my way (which would motivate me to put it on the car quicker....)

Put it in the car today!!!!

If you can't, maybe put some wd 40 on the shafts & wrap it in plastic . I just did that to my cams and it worked. Pretty sure anything oily will work to prevent surface rust.as long as you cover it. But glad wrp would probably work too.

Mother nature decided that for me stan, the answer was "HAHA NO!" in the form of two days of hot-as-balls sun, followed by two days of rain... Ahh, Australian summer, you are so good!

I'm not entirely sure anyone that pays for a sauna works anywhere hot while doing manual labour.


They might pay to sit in a coolroom, or sneak into the freezers at coles, but I doubt they're thinking "gee, I really miss sweating my guts out, I might go sit in the sauna for halfa!" :lol:

Last weekend I completely missed the FanFest. I wanted to go, but I also wanted to not drive a car for a couple of days. The photos & videos I've seen around the intertubes made it look like an excellent weekend. You know what else was excellent? Doing nothing at all. Lately I've been reminiscing about my life as a lazy person. I really like being lazy, and work has totally ruined that on me!

Today I finally came across the Holy Trinity of Motivation: Not Hot, Not Raining, and Home by 5PM - so I finally got around to fixing my window!! Huzzah!

About a month ago I bought 4 more mountain bike brake cables, with the intention of doing both sides.

About 3 weeks ago I accidentially filled the cable on one of the ends, and it frayed and went mental.

About 2 weeks ago I bought a vice to hold the cables so I could file them easier. Best. Investment. Ever.

After getting my vice it took all of about 20 minutes to file down both cables. Then I did nothing about it for 2 weeks.

Here are the new cables, ends filled down and lubed up and ready for activities.

The bolts come though into "window space" - so I filled them down until they no longer interfered with the window. The little plate that clamps the cables into place is just some thin aluminum, nice and soft so the cables bed into it without squashing them and causing them to fray.

And finally, to get tension on the whole system, a clamp does wonders for compressing the springs, then pull the cables as tight as you can, toghten the bolts, and release the clamp. All things being equal, you'll have a correctly tensioned mechanism, ready to put into a door and run up and down over and over because you've had no power window for well over a month....

I found a place semi-locally that does dyno time for $99/hr ... they have no idea what a megaqsuirt is, but I figure as long as they can use a dyno, I'll do the megasquirting, and I'll hopefully have an actual tune, not some butt-dyno-auto-fuel-guessed-spark atrocity. Worst case scenario, 1.8 upgrade... lol

In 6 weeks I've got a week off work (wooo!) and so I'm off to Cooma to see my mate, and, hopefully, drive on a whole bunch of mountain roads. I'm a bit excited about both of these things!

Before then I hope to have my clutch switch and sequential injection wired up.... ....maybe....

for the diff storage, make sure it has oil in it to keep the gears rust free, and plug the shaft holes to keep sh*t out of the centre. (or lightly put the shafts in without engaging the circlip)
be careful when plugging the holes that you dont damage the seals, theyre fussy things and a dick go change.

for the shafts, just coat thd ends in oil or grease (grease lasts longer, but messier) and then put a shopping bag over each end.

I ended up using gladwrap, WD40 and zip ties. the shaft holes have rags. I do need to check the oil in the diff though, the P.O. can't remember if he drained it or not, but had the intention of doing it.

I finally decided it was time to buy a shed.... except I'm renting, and there's no room for a shed, and I don't actually have that kind of money....

I got down to doing some wiring in my new shady location, with internet help from bartman.

I fixed my tacho issues (not mentioned here, but they're over in the MS-Owner's thread) - it would start going backwards (literally) after 6k. Turns out I'd just wired in all of the options for tach control. I cut out the pullup and the tacho trigger from the coils, and left just tach-out on the ms and it works nicely.

Then I decided to wire up launch control / flat shifting ... except it was already good to go, I just had to turn it on in TS.

Having the car in neutral reports as having the clutch in as well, so you can't actually test it without putting the car in gear and taking your foot off the clutch. I spent a non-trivial amount of time fluffing around with TS settings and the wires and clutch switch before bartman pointed out that's the normal mode of operation.

It works excellently, with the exception of changing from 3rd to 4th, I ended end up in 2nd both times I tried it. There was no third attempt. The time to replace all of the bushes and mounts I've been putting off since forever ago is getting closer I think!

You should consider sidewalls as well for night time. Then also put down carpet so shes parked on carpet.

OMG she will go so hard for you afterwards.

Those sort of 'sheds' are not wind friendly... You can leave the structure up but remember to take the 'shade' part down.
