3D printer, I will have to think about what you could do for me :)

Every time I see a shot of your engine bay I feel a little inadequate... Especially when people ask about where the bonnet rubs on the airbox.

Hopefully this weekend I can clean up my engine bay :)

Did some small revisions to my airbox design, also quickly mocked up the rest of the components for it. And looks like I'll probably have the airbox printed using Taulman Nylon Alloy 910, very strong and should hold up against the heat.

Inlet diameter on the airbox is 108mm (4.25"). The duct will be made using laser-cut aluminium sheet, it will also hold the 300mm x 300mm panel filter. I'm planning on mounting the duct under the radiator support alongside a half-sized radiator from a Honda Civic. This should be give me the lowest air temps as well as providing good filtration and high flow.

Are you going to print the piping as well? Or just Al tube it?

Are 2 mounting tabs sufficient?
4 would be stronger and less susceptible to twisting (or is there a recessed lip to fit over the lower half on the "intake manifold" - looks like there is).

plohl, I thought it was preferable NOT to use metal plumbing since it heatsoaks.

This has been an issue with many aftermarket CAIs, performance improvements are typically quoted using the first dyno run results, after that subsequent runs tend to be no better, sometimes worse, than the OEM intake because the aftermarket CAI has absorbed so much heat, reducing its efficiency.

If the plumbing is kept on the coldside only, which this looks like, it's probably not as big an issue as if it were on the hotside.

Possibly too much of a ram air effect? I know too much air/speed .can be detrimental.

It'll have 4 mounting tabs, supposed to be another 2 in the corners but haven't modelled them in yet. My idea is to use the same mounting plate as the Pipercross filter I'm currently using, keeps it simple and I'll be able to swap between the 2 set-ups easily.

I'll look into it now that you've mentioned it, do you know of any info I can read up? I honestly don't know enough about the subject, just been modelling up random things on the plane as I'm travelling atm.

What if I use flexible piping? Would have less heat soak and gets rid of any stresses on the airbox from engine movement.

Looking forward to the end result. This was similar to a plan I had, 1/2 radiator, 1/4 size air intake and 1/4 oil cooler.

I don't have any references regards the ram air effect. I think it's a physics problem? ie. How much air can the itbs flow

You might find being in Qld you get a lot of radiant heat off the road/track surface compared to air from the cowl.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.
