Is it worthwhile to upgrade to Tuner Studio MS Ultra and mega log viewer HD
or just go the standard upgrade?

I have the registered non-ultra TunerStudio, so I have "VE Analyse Live", but I don't miss anything from the "ultra" edition (I think it amounts to extra analysis features)
I haven't registered MegaLogViewer (or the HD edition), and wish I had because the non-registered log analysis only does about 3 minutes of logs, which is annoying when you want to VE Analyse a long drive (a lot of load/rpm cells)
And most importantly! congrats on being back on the road!

Re: Patchy's Fawlty Towers risk management. Enter at own risk
She goes beatyfully.
The higher compression has made the cams idle stock like. It hunts ever so slightly maybe by 50 rpm. But not quite rock solid like stock. On the standard ECU she idles at about 900.
The induction noise seems louder. By a fair amount. It's only going to get louder once the AFM gets removed.
The exsaust is deeper & more solid just a fraction louder
Engine starts reciting poetry from 5000.....becomes real smooth . Even a bit quieter? Or so it seems. While the CAI is doing opera.....ohh wait....maybe it's more like the screaming of Jimmy Barnes.
I've taken her to 6k. probably a bit too soon. I recon she's going to be great at 7-7.5 k rpm
There is still a burning smell about. Even after 60km.
Power? It seems that way. No idea really.
Overall she runs a bit rich. Even when cruising 2-3krpm I'm getting like 15.5:1 at wot i did see numbers in the low 10s
But not sure I'll bother mucking about with the AFM if the megasquirt is going in reasonably shortly.

Made the engine bay a bit more pretty last weekend.
Painted polished the cam cover. Painted some brackets & cleaned the engine bay beneath those bracket.
Although the cover had been polished a bit already its progress in work. The plenum is getting the treatment now. Whenever I have a bit of time. I sand it back a bit. Eventually it will be polished .

Looks good STM, looking forward to seeing more shots of Patchy on the road.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

For the nerds
Stock ECU. stock injectors. big lift & 272 cams
running a little rich. Thinking of tightening the AFM Flap spring a little.
at 15.25 changed down a gear.
1545 at WOT AFR as far down as 10.1:1 but only temporary
16.02 changed gear
1606 cruising at high speed AFR between

Re: Patchy's Fawlty Towers risk management. Enter at own risk
Ok so this is how she drives.
She smokes a bit at WOT. But she did that before as well
She starts first go every time. Turn key starts goes up to about 1200 then settles down. When cold she then goes back to 850 and then takes about 5 secs to then go up to 1000-1200 depending on temp.
Idle is pretty sweet when warmed up. At around 850 that's just looking at the tacho. There is the ever so slight hunting but it terribly minor . She's almost rock solid. Before the CR increase she'd idle a considerable amount less stable.
Up to 2000 she's a fraction better than stock.
3000-5000 she is a lot stronger even at cruising speed there is more power.
5000 she comes alive . The engine noise becomes quieter and recites poetry. At the same stage the CAI stats singing like Jimmy Barnes . Fucken hell its noisy but it pulls hard. Induction noise is only getting louder when the AFM gets removed. Not sure who screams like that ACDC ?
It's hard to guess how much power she has.an estimate? 95 RwKw? But that's just me guessing. I really have no idea. She needs to go on a Dyno
There was a bit of oil burning or rich fuel smell constantly over the last day or so. More so than before I've logged the AFR as you can see above.
This morning I mucked about with the AFM a bit it seems more stable with the AFR but the smoke & smell has disappears for the most part. We'll wait & see. The log from today is similar but slightly less big spikes spikes AFR went as low as 10.47:1 as opposed to 10.04:1
She's an absolute
pleasure to drive. I find myself just going for a drive. Because I can
.
I'm going to rejoin the MX5 club of NSW. I'm going to harass them at the pie in the sky next weekend.
I originally thought this journey would take me 2 weeks . Ha!!!! 5 months later
Ok for the last month she's just been sitting there waiting to fund rego. So 4 months
I've loved the journey.
In a few week the Megasquirt will be in. That's going to be a seperate journey. But I'll make sure I get a power run before that.
Everything is ready to go. Except the AFM delete. A piece of pipe should be easy enough. VTPS is also ready to go.
With the smoking yesterday I thought the engine was finished. But we'll see.

Megasquirt went in tonight.
Warm starting need a little work . Just not as sweet as stock at this stage but 95% there
Got it idling sweet.....
I've set it up so I can swap ECUs at a moments notice and currently running it with the AFM.
Gentle driving is sweet no holes or bucking while cruising.
Generally running rich but doesn't have the extremities of the stock ECU has
Getting my head around all the graphs from logging.

Well done STM - so far sounds less frustrating than the last ECU.

Just driving it around.
Idle is a little jumpy just after start even when warm but then after a while it just becomes rock solid.
Still getting my head around cold idle adjustments at this stage.
I thought I had a variable TPS but looks like it's not.
