Disabling automatic antenna on NB8A

My antenna goes up everytime i start the car and it looks very ugly in my opinion. I never use the radio as well.
Is there any way to disable it from going up and down automatically?

It should only go up when radio turn on... if you remove the trim panel on the inside of the boot on RHS and locate the antenna motor you will find black thick cable (signal) and a white connector with 3(?) cables, remove this by pushing in lock tab and pulling connector out.. this will stop the motor driving the mast up (and down)

it does seem weird that the antenna goes up when the radio is not switched on- its the radio r on that drives the antennas motor. If you disable the mast up then what happens if you want to listen to the radio for the news etc?

I had the same annoyance. My solution was a stubby antenna kit. Was fairy cheap. Radio reception is fine. Looks far more modern. Might even be lighter!

I did this years ago since I hated the "Remote-Control car look" (also nearly snapped the bugger once when driving out of a secure car park and not waiting for the roll-up door to go all the way up - I forgot how tall the antenna extends).

Remove it. Plug or full in the hole. Use this, it works well.

stubby looks better- no just a cheap fix i.e. cost saving- fixed aerials were actually ubiquitous and often snapped off. Modern cars and you dont see anything. Fill the hole- not nearly as simple as it sounds and repaint what the whole guard.

It should only come up with he radio on.
When you switch to tape, or CD, it should drop again. (On stock radio, and my aftermarket Sony one)
Some aftermarket radios just trigger it when they're on, regardless of setting.


To disable totally your easiest is to unplug it at the motor (in boot at base of antenna)

For a temporary cutoff you can buy a switch to mount on the dash, then simply run the antenna trigger wire through the switch instead of direct to the stereo (you can then flick the switch to lower or raise the antenna)
Off the top of my head the antenna trigger wire is the blue one leading into the back of the stereo (on NB8A)
Look up the radio pinout, I may be mistaken in my colour codem
