NB8B vibration all over at hyw speeds, advice pls

Postby squeeech » Sun Jan 22, 2017 9:50 am

Hi, My car has the shakes... Only at between 95 and 120 kph it happens.... I changed 4 wheels and tyres, spent up on tien shocks and had the brissy experts fit them, checked rubbers and joints etc, and running out of ideas. Did a search, suggestions were damaged engine mounts or driveshaft imbalance..as well as the above. I'm hoping that one of you guys has stuck this before and can help out before I spend any more money. Car is generally in excellent cond with perfect history etc. and ONLY does it at the higher speeds listed above. Steering wheel is steady at ALL speeds but the shake vibration is all over the car, windscreen pillar actually vibes side to side a few mills.. but all good at slow speeds.
help appreciated.
Graham.

You didn't say if you have had an alignment after the shocks were fitted, or if the wheels were balanced when you changed them?

I would agree with madmort RE wheel alignment or balance- but if you have already looked into that, maybe go outside the box and have a panel beater shop go over it-

I think that rules out front wheel balance/alignment being the problem.
You could try rear wheels on the front to see if they make the steering shake, but the shake sounds more severe than out of balance rear wheels.
As you mentioned check engine mounts plus drive shaft straightness/balance/universal joints. Also PPF attachment at g/box & diff.

Google: PPF alignment.
