Can't remove rotors

Postby Tigger » Sat Jan 21, 2017 9:06 pm

Hi guys. Tearing my hair out with this.
I'm trying to remove my front rotors from my nb8c. I've removed the caliper and the caliper retaining bracket (once the bolts finally gave way), but I can't get the rotor off.
Am i missing something or has it rust welded itself to the hub?
Any ideas about getting it loose?
Thanks

Once you've got the caliper/bracket out of the way that should be it.

Usually takes a few hits from a rubber mallet to break loose from experience.

That's exactly what I've been doing, but no dice. Unless I'm just not hitting hard enough.

I noticed a bolt hole with a dead end on the hat. Is what I see the hub? Can I put a bolt in there and tighten it to break the seal? Is that a thing.

Yep there should be two holes that you can put bolts in and tighten to forcibly break the seal.

Have never had to use this method myself but it's probably covered online what size bolt you need etc.

Awesome. I haven't seen reference to it, but I have a tap and die set I can find the size and thread pitch of.

Thanks for confirming that. Appreciate it.

Thanks for that. It confirms that's what the bolt hole is there for.
However, they should update it to say that it can be an utter cnut to remove.

I've rummaged through my bolt bin and found a few candidates. Once I have one that fits I'll come back and advise what the OEM bolt and thread size is (as I assume it'll change between aftermarket manufacturers).

Yeah, by eyeballing it I'd say M6. Thread pitch seems pretty standard. I'm guessing 1.25.
I'm about to do it and I'll check with my die set what it actually is.

Before I realised the hole was there I was smacking the crap out of it with a mallet! M6 for sure!

M6 is 1mm pitch.

The holes are called "jacking holes"

Confirmed, M6 x 1.0
Jacking holes? I thought that was something you found in the walls of public toilets.
Oh wait... That's something else....
