Re: Would you buy a repairable writeoff ND?
I thought we covered it in previous posts. To put it plainly repairing new cars is a job for professionals. Paying a panel shop to do the work saves absolutely nothing.and it may take a long time wit an unknown cost. If you dont have access to jigs ,tools ,welders, trade pricing , painting equipment etc its something to avoid. Old cars can be different e.g. an NA is not the same challenge and used parts may be available.

Hi Tip, $24,000 can buy a lot of car. eg...a 2004 VR SE with less than 70,000 klms, $17,000. Plenty of NC's and the list goes on.

When you turn your car on, does it return the favour?

Yes to your question ! " I " would , has to be low ks and IF after full inspection , happy with what I see , compilation of parts list / pricing and the final factor the price which from having brought many low k repairable write offs [ different marques ] mainly at auction ""this price is to high "
. An example NB 25000k light hit on nose , both air bags u/s , LH rail skirt , rad. a/c condenser , bonnet , lights , and other front stuff I purchased at auction for around 9 grand , about 20/ 22 back on road retailing at that time around 30 . A write off has little value to most people the reasons are , wreakers [ even specialist ] will not pay high prices at auctions these were my main competition at auctions , private buyers without skills / equipment will have to pay a body shop so no real advantage and the insurance company just wants it gone . Last of all what purpose do you want the vehicle for , repair to sell , to keep and use for say 20/40 ks [ buy low ks ] and then sell , its down to what works for you . Last , despite all the advice from ill- informed /inexperienced people a correctly repaired vehicle , I repeat correctly is quite safe and a joy to drive .

Ok guys now i can tell you the story... It went for around 11-12k + 12% fees on pickles today, the centre metal was bent and something inside, and bonnet obv, the rest was just in the box.
I didn't bid as i don't know what i'm getting myself into and low fund, was only looking to buy it and drive it few days and resale for profit.
ND 2.0 can be had for 31k, i suspect it should drop a bit more once people start getting R/H one.

Hmmmm, if they spend $10k fixing it up it's not a bad deal.
It's hard to see how it would make a viable parts car when all the ND's are still under factory warranty. Something like a blown engine or faulty soft top should be replaced for free by the dealer.

Once a car its on WOVR there is no warranty and selling is much harder. It is still new so if you have any gearbox issues like some people you have to spend big coin to get it right.
I know one person who's gearbox died at 5000 km's and Mazda didn't do anything about it because there was rubber in the wheel arches.

If it's the same person that I'm thinking of, there was a post on one of the facebook MX5 groups. Apparently the Mazda dealership would not give the guy a loaner car while they fixed his car because they found rubber in the wheel arches of his car, and reckoned he'd give the loaner car the same treatment.
They did not say they wouldn't fix/replace the gearbox - actually the complete opposite. Just wouldn't give the guy a loaner car.
