Re: Speed's boosted NA6
I was expecting to receive my flanges today but instead received a text from Australia Post saying that they probably won't come today
In preparation, I bent up some hangers to go into the stock NA6 locations. Welded 3 to the muffler and another on the mid pipe.
Then I received a call from mitre 10 advising that my threaded tap had arrived.
Picked it up and started to drill and tap my sump.
I wanted to fit it further back but with the engine still in the car I chose the easiest location that I could get my drill into nice and square.
I do have another sump that is tapped to clear the air con compressor. I'll be sure to fit that one when I eventually build the spare engine just in case I decide to refit the air con.
Fingers crossed that my flanges arrive tomorrow so I can weld them to my new cat and finish the exhaust.
Once that's done it's only the intercooler piping to be welded and a few hose clamps fitted along with a BOV and I should be able to start her up

Flanges arrived today!
Now tacked up.
Just need to tack up the tail pipe then I can take it to someone that can actually weld

And tail pipe tacked.
Comes out at a bit of an angle toward the drivers side but was hard to hold in the perfect spot so this will have to do

Re: Speed's boosted NA6
Mrs Speed picked up my exhaust and cooler pipes from the welder yesterday.
It all needs a good clean but here's the finished IC piping and IC bracket.
I made the bracket this way to bolt into factory bolt holes and to minimalise blocking the radiator.
The cooler piping, being aluminum is super light.
The 3 fittings are for IAT, ICV and BOV.

Re: Speed's boosted NA6
Cleaned up the piping with some thinners.
Received the quality stamp of approval from my little helper.
Intercooler and bracket is next then will fit to the car with the new silicon joiners and stainless steel T-clamps.

Thanks Daffy.
Here's the test fit pic.
Have the clearance that I was expecting.
Just wish that I had angled the barb for the idle control up a bit.
I had expected that I would need to trim it down but just not sure if an S Pipe will still work.

Re: Speed's boosted NA6
I cut down the barb for the idle control and managed to get a hose on but is kinked as expected.
I'll have to sort a better option to replace it in the future.
Eventually I'll be going for a boxed pod filter but for now this is how the engine bay looks.
From the top you don't really see much of the intercooler piping.
I'll be putting a plate on the original thermostat neck and replacing it with a freeze plug when the built engine goes in.
I also plan to make a heat shield for the turbo and manifold which will hide it some more.

Heres an idea, just thinking if you wanted to save the drama of fabricating something....

Thanks for the suggestion.
It looks more like a blanket.
I'm really after something that looks more OEM but it will all depend how desperate I am for time.

Re: Speed's boosted NA6
Exhaust all welded up and bolted in.
Has adequate clearance and doesn't bash into anything when I attempt to sway it side to side.
Tail pipe ended up being pretty good. Slight angle but in the centre of the cutout and good enough.
