ND OEM Brembos for aesthetics

So as we know, the Brembo brakes aren't listed anywhere on the AU option list for NDs (would like to be mistaken).

And the stock calipers are just kind of boring looking, they don't spoil the car by any means, but just feels like one of the first items to replace for aesthetics

Anyone replaced just the calipers, or if you've replaced more, any reason to that? I would consider it based on weight savings, but it really depends how much.

Even if the brembo's were available, would you be prepared to pay the difference (I"m sure it would be substantial). After a few trackdays I fitted some GLOC xp12 pads (Carbotech by another name) the extra bite is very noticeable). Unless you were racing, bigger brakes are a big expense and mostly for the looks.

On the other hand, if you are trying to save weight, 2 piece rotors and something like Gooodwins 4 piston willwood dynapro caliper kit is going to save 16lbs weight but would still cost around $1900AUS (in red).

My son bought me some stainless braided brake lines for xmas, so might be tempted to paint the calipers whilst fitting and bleeding the lines. It will be interesting to see if the lines make any difference.

When I changed the pads, I did price the factory front discs. They were around $200 each (trade price). When they do wear out I will probably get 2 piece directional rotors from 949 Racing. They are listed at $359US and are 8lbs lighter per pair.

If you're looking to upgrade just for aesthetics, maybe ebay for the brembo caliper covers????

Yeah gee, good idea. I didn't think I needed more brakes for the road, it's so light almost any modern brakes would stop this car, it is purely for looks, so I'll see what I can find, thanks!

Probably could add a Mugen sticker on it also for aesthetics.

Actually on reflection, I could not be bothered explaining to people that they weren't really brembo brakes, I'd rather waste money on brakes it doesn't need then put pieces of plastic on it.

Yes, mugen, funny, along with a VTEC badge too...

Wow go searching to see if someone has made a thread here and they haven't, so am reviving my own thread.

Yeah, I love my ND. But... I came from a Golf V GTI, it had INSANE OEM brakes, I never touched them, I had considered upgrading the rear to match the front brakes because the pad wear was so amazingly minimal on the fronts, and I did replace the rears once.

The ND's brakes, a 300 odd kilogram lighter car, leave much to be desired.

Especially because I'm in Manual (versus DSG with the Golf), I use the gears the brake, I thought it was a bad habit but have decided it isn't, even still I would like a bit of extra punch, and Brembos seem to be the obvious choice.

*Goes back over previous responses* Ok, so I could just upgrade the pads when they fail... Mmm, I feel the standard brake calipers are still the one thing I'd really like to change 'ANYWAY' I feel upgraded, Brembo in exact OEM spec brakes, would add value to me as an owner, a planned owner for many years at this stage, so it would more be for me every day, and then yeah add value much further down the track.

Really, I don't want to do ANY upgrade to engine, suspension, even the seats I'm 'ok' with but they aren't great, I just couldn't bare to upgrade them, so this is the only thing.

I'm going in for my first (proper) service next week 10,000kms / 6250 miles, I'll talk to them about what they have in spare parts.
